Welcome to assignment 1 of the online module.

I explored tweets from Five Guys and In-n-Out Burger. The charts and scripts below will highlight my work.

There were 2 packages I used to extract my twitter data. These are httpv and rtweet

I also utilized tidyverse in my analysis.

Question 1

For my first question I asked: Where are the tweets coming from?

I think this would be great for each company to know so they can either create a marketing campaign through social or more geared towards desktop. For these tweets I looked at any tweet that used the name of the company, not their @.

From my analysis I saw that there was a nearly identical pattern that showed between the two charts. When I dug further into the data, I saw that most of the tweets for both came from twitter on android and twitter on iphone. With this information, I think both companies would benefit from creating a social campaign based on mobile rather than through desktop. But if there is any money left over it would be smart to utilize desktop as well.

Question 2

Hmm. What do you think of this question?

“Which fan base has the most followers on their accounts?”

I want to see if there is a chance for either company to utilize their followers to increase word of mouth marketing. My prediction for the follower counts is that In n out will have more total followers because they are on the west coast and there are more celebrities. For these tweets, I used the tweets that included the phrases five guys or in n out to get a broader sense of who might be tweeting about it.

My research showed that the people who tweeted at Five Guys actually had more followers (6451095) than In n Out (1257008). These companies can look at the people with the most influence based on these numbers to make sure they are saying positive things about the business.

Question 3

The final question:

Which Burger Joint has the most retweet worthy content?

I want to see which one has the highest total of retweets based on content from accounts that tag them in it and then compare the two to see whos engagement is creating the best content. For this analysis I used the tweets that had @ and then the companies handle. This allowed me to find the tweets that generated the most direct traffic to their accounts.

As you can see from my analysis. Both accounts are recieving tags from posts with their @ with little to no engagement. There are over 150 posts that see 0 retweets. In order to increase their social media word of mouth marketing, they may want to reach out to influencers to spread their @ to more twitter members.

I hope that you enjoyed my analysis!
