The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) uses the Smarter Balanced suite of summative assessments in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics to provide annual measures of what students know and can do in relation to the Common Core State Standards for ELA and mathematics. These measures provide information about how much students have improved in ELA or math from the previous year and help identify gaps in knowledge or skills so students get the support they need for success in higher grades and become ready for college or a career. What these scores mean to a senior planning to attend a CSU:
Level 4: Standard Exceeded – Level 4 students may enroll directly in General Education (GE) courses.
Level 3: Standard Met –
- Level 3 students in Non-STEM and Undecided Majors that have completed a 12th grade approved year-long math course earning a C- or better, OR have taken 4 or more years of high school math/quantitative reasoning (QR) may enroll directly in GE courses.
- Level 3 students in Pre-STEM, STEM or Other Math-Intensive Majors that have completed a 12th grade approved year-long math course earning a C- or better, OR have taken 4 or more years of high school math may enroll directly in GE courses.
- English placement for ALL MAJORS meeting level 3 AND completed a 12th grade approved year-long English course earning C- or better, e.g., Expository Reading and Writing Course (ERWC).
