This visualization shows Singapore changing demographics from 2011 to 2019. Young refers to people aged below 25 years, working group 25 to 64 years, and Elderly 65 years and above.
Data available publically and can be downloaded from Singstats.gov.sg.

2.0 Population Trends in Singapore (2011 to 2019)
2.1 Population Trends in Absolute Numbers
From year 2011 to 2019,
- Young population have decreased from 1.15 mil to 1.06mil
- Working Group haveincreased from 2.28mil to 2.39mil
- Elderly population have increased from 0.35mil to 0.58mil
2.2 Population Trends in Percentage
In terms of percentage,
- Young population percentage have decreased from 30.4% in 2011 to 26.3% in 2019
- Elderly population percentage have been steadily increasing, from 9.3% in 2011 to 14.5% in 2019
- Working Group population percentage remain relatively constant, from 60.2% in 2011 to 59.1% in 2019
3.0 Population Trends by Region
From the heatmap, we can see
- Young Population
- Overall, there is a decrease in young population percentage
- Even in regions with traditionally higher % of young population such as Pasir Ris, Punggol, Choa Chu Kang, and Woodlands, there is a decrease in youth population
- Overall, there is a decrease in young population percentage
- Working Group
- Downtown core contains the higher % of working group. However, data seems incomplete from 2017 onwards
- Some regions such as Queenstown and Bukit Timah have seen working group eroding to less than 60%
- Elderly
- Generally trend of aging in Singapore, with some planning area such as Outram and Rochor experiencing a much faster aging population
