Phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate is an important secondary messenger molecule located in the plasma membrane of the cell (Rajala and Anderson, 2010). It modulates a lot of cellular activities in its role in signalling pathways e.g. cell movement, modulation of ion channels and gene expression (Rajala and Anderson, 2010). The image to the left illustrates the components involved in the synthesis of Phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate and the products that Phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate creates and is sourced from: (Rajala and Anderson, 2010).
