Progesterone is a hormone that plays a role in the reproductive system (Liang et al., 2018). More specifically: menstruation; pregnancy and the development of human embryos (Liang et al., 2018). It functions as a controlling hormone for oestrogen by lowering the number of oestrogen receptors and binds to progesterone receptors (Liang et al., 2018). Its structure is shown on the left.
