The MCAT is the Medical College Admissions Test. The median score on the MCAT is a 500. In recent years the number of applicants on the MCAT has risen substantially, causing more and more applicants to turn to test prep services in hopes of boosting their test scores. In some cases, test prep services such at Princeton Review now offer a score guarantee to entice students to sign on to use of their services.

In many cases just a few additional points can make a big difference. As you can see from the plot below, the median score of 500 offers only about a 20 percent chance of admission to an American medial school. However, at just 510, the chances of admission climb substantially to closer to 60%.
