One observation of the table is that the number of people killed and number of people injured, given a day of the week and location is more often than not skewed in one direction. It is primarily much higher on the number of people killed or on the number of people injured; with few values being equal to each other or close to being equal to each other (as compared to the amount of values that are drastically different). Another insight from the table is that Pompano Beach (Parkland), Florida had the highest number of people killed AND number of people injured, both at 17 people. Robstown, Texas, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Wilmington, Tennessee, Paintsville, Kentucky, Reading, Pennsylvania, Melcroft, Pennsylvania, Annapolis, Maryland, Bakersfield, California all tied for the lowest number of people injured from this dataset, all coming in at 0 people.

Description of a particular incident

According to the the Gun Violence Archive of Mass Shootings, the last mass shooting of 2018 occurred on December 31, 2018. The shooting happened in Cleveland, Ohio and on 4462 Denison Ave. According to a local news source, on New Years Eve 2018, a group of friends hosted a NYE party at an AirBnB. The trouble began when an uninvited group refused to leave the party. When they were asked to exit, they began shooting. 3 victims were killed and 2 were left injured.

Interactive Map

For this interactive map, I chose leaflet because it allows for an interactive map visualization and categorical and continuous comparisons.

One insight revealed by this map is that the top 4 cities with the most number of people injured and killed are Pompano Beach (Parkland), Thousand Oaks, Melcroft, and Santa Fe. Another insight is that there is a concentration of cities impacted by shootings on the upper East Coast.

Plot of your choice

Which state had the highest number of people killed in 2018 due to shootings? The 2 variables for my plot are the state and the number of shootings for that city. I chose to use a bar chart because you can easily compare the differences in number of people killed based on their state.

One insight made by this plot is that California and Florida had significantly topped the states with the most shootings. Another insight made by this plot is that Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Utah were the 3 states that had no deaths from mass shootings in 2018.
