About this dashboard

This dashboard provides information related to our mutual friend-Krishna Murthi’s financial data. It helps us to identify patterns in earning, savings, investment and expenditures. All the visualizations are interactive in this dashboards which enables us to dynamically focus on specific financial aspects. It also shows the trend of each financial category over the years. It’ll help us to identify financial habits and situation at a given point of time and make recommendations to our friend, in order to optimize his finances.

Data Acquisition:

Mint is a financial app that helps manage all the financial accounts and can integrated with all major financial institutions. Krishna uses Mint to track all his savings, checking, loans and credit balance from various banks. To extract all the details from the mint, we used web scrapping technique. Once the data was extracted, it is saved in csv format and loaded into R for further data exploration and analysis. This data provides information related to every single transaction Krishna made and the snapshot of each bank and credit card account.The data goes back to the year of 2013. The visualization shows all the transactions over the years, beginning from 2013. It allows us to see the visuals on which category had maximum transactions. It also visually describes the changing patterns of expenses in each category over the years. The plot is interactive and just by hovering over you can see the information. You can also choose any transaction type from the legend to see the pattern over the months and years.

This helps to understand how the money is distributed among different categories in a year. This visualization is interactive and the size of the bubble indicates the associated amount.
