This specific type of data consists of roughly 80,000 observations of UFO “sightings” from all over the world. The details within these observations include things like the size and shape of the UFO’s and when and where the sightings took place. The variables within this data set are listed as “data_time”, “city_area”, “state”, “country”, “ufo_shape”, “encounter_length”, “described_encounter_length”, “description”, “date_documented”, “latitude”, and “longitude”.
The chart demonstrates a spike in UFO sightings from 1990’s to 2000’s. However it represents a downfall from 2000 to 2010. A 2016 article, “Why are people starting to believe in UFOs again?” written by Joseph P. Laycock states “The 1990s were a high-water mark for public interest in UFOs and alien abduction. Shows like “The X-Files” and Fox’s “alien autopsy” hoax were prime-time events, while MIT even hosted an academic conference on the abduction phenomenon." After time these theories started to ware down which is also represented within the chart.

We believe that there are more sightings in some states over others because the states with more recorded sightings tend to be larger populated states whcih can result in having an increase in chance of a recorded sight. Also, in larger states there is a larger air traffic which can result in misenterpetation of planes or other aircrafts.
