Q1 What is the title of the screencast?

Tidy Tuesday screencast: analyzing Bob Ross paintings in R

Q2 When was it published?

This screencast was presented on August 12th, 2019

Q3 Describe the data

Hint: What’s the source of the data; what does the row represent; how many observations?; what are the variables; and what do they mean?

The source of the data is from the 538 R Package. Each row represents a different episode of The Joy Of Painting with Bob Ross. After filtering the data we ended up with 3,221 observations of data. The variables are Episode, Title, Element, and Present. Episode is what episode it is in order from season 1, Title is the name of the episode, Element is what is included in the painting and present is wether or not it is in a painting represented by a 1 or a 0.

Q4-Q5 Describe how Dave approached the analysis each step.

Hint: For example, importing data, understanding the data, data exploration, etc.

Dave imported the data from the 538 R package and used the Janitor, Filter, Gather and Mutate commands to sort it in order to get a better understanding of the data. He then cleaned up the data in order to make it look better by making it not all capital letters and removing the quotes using the mutate command. He also used capturing groups to sort out the season numbers and episode numbers. In order to understand the data he put it into a bar chart sorted by the elements that Bob Ross used in his paintings, he discovered that Bob Ross likes to paint trees the most and painted landscape paintings the most.

Q6 Did you see anything in the video that you learned in class? Discuss in a short paragraph.

Yes in the video Dave uses the pipe operator numerous times to move the data down one line. We have used this in class a few times. He also used the filter command and the mutate command that we used in class to sort data.

Q7 What is a major finding from the analysis.

A major finding from the analysis is that Bob Ross prefers painting Landscape Portratits the most while also painting the element trees the greatest amount of times through out his television show The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross.

Q8 What is the most interesting thing you really liked about the analysis.

I really enjoyed watching Dave break down how Bob Ross paints a picture and how much he really paints. The amount of times he paints trees is very large and actually was a data point that surpised me.

Q9 Display the title and your name correctly at the top of the webpage.

Q10 Use the correct slug.
