Speed and Height

Speed and height. 1,302 UCLA students were asked to fill out a survey where they were asked about their height, fastest speed they have ever driven, and gender. The scatterplot on the left displays the relationship between height and fastest speed, and the scatterplot on the right displays the breakdown by gender in this relationship. Problem 7.11

(a) Describe the relationship between height and fastest speed.

(a) Describe the relationship between height and fastest speed.

  • Apparent positive relation
  • Fit a line using:
    \( y=\beta_{0}+\beta_{1} x \)
  • Lots of residuals:
    \( e_{i}=y_{i}-\hat{y}_{i} \)
  • Presence of outliers

(b) Why do you think these variables are positively associated?

Speed (Response) appears to be linearly proportional height (predictor)

(c) What role does gender play in the relationship between height and fastest driving speed?

(c) What role does gender play in the relationship between height and fastest driving speed?

  • Gender does plays a role
  • Probably…
  • Is it a linear relationship or a cluster?
