The University of Liberia customarily administers entrance and placement exams as part of the vetting process of admission. The test is intended to help determine selection of those who are at least capable of doing college course work without further high school preparation.
This year 2019 SECOND ENTRANCE AND PLACEMENT EXAMINATION RESULTS for the Undergraduate Colleges, Straz Sinje, and the College of General Studies fall into six categories:
REGULAR PASS
PROVISIONAL PASS
UNSUCCESSFUL
ABSENT and
DISQUALIFIED FOR CHEATING.
SCALES USED
Undergraduate Colleges, Sinje & College of General Studies
REGULAR PASS candidates are those who scored at least 50% in Mathematics and at least 50% in English. REGULAR PASS candidates may register for up to 18 credit hours during their first semester in a college of the University of Liberia.
PROVISIONAL PASS candidates are those who scored less than 50% in Mathematics or less than 50% in English but obtained an average score of at least 50% when their mathematics and English scores are combined. PROVISIONAL PASS candidates may register for up to 12 or 13 credit-hours during their first semester in a college of the University of Liberia. The credit hours should include Freshman Mathematics and Freshman English.
UNSUCCESSFUL candidates are those who have an average score of less than 50% when their mathematics and English scores are combined. UNSUCCESSFUL candidates must register again for another UL entrance examination and obtain a pass mark/grade in that exam before they can gain entry to University of Liberia.
ABSENT candidates are those who registered for the University of Liberia entrance but did not turn out for the Entrance Examination. Candidates that were absent must register again for another UL entrance examination and obtain a pass mark/grade in that exam before they can gain entry to the University of Liberia.
DISQUALIFIED candidates are those who were caught cheating during the Entrance Exams. Disqualified Candidates must register again for another UL entrance examination and obtain a passing mark/grade in that exam before they can gain entry to the University of Liberia.
A total of four thousand six hundred twenty-eight (4,628) candidates registered for the Second Entrance for Under Graduate, Sinje Vocational College and the College of General Studies. Of this number, only four thousand, five hundred forty-four (4,544 or % ) candidates turned out while eighty-four (84 or %) candidates were absent. Of the total four thousand, five hundred forty-four (4,544 or % ) candidates who wrote the Entrance Exams, three(3) were disqualified for Examination malpractice. We therefore analyzed only four thousand, five hundred forty-one(4,541) candidates results.
Of the total of four thousand, five hundred forty-one(4,541) candidates results analyzed, four hundred sixty-one(461 or 10.15%) made a provisional pass, one thousand, five hundred twenty-one(1,521 or 33.49%) candidates made a regular pass while two thousand, five hundred fifty-nine(2,559 or 56.35%) candidates were unsuccessful
This also means that one thousand, nine hundred eighty-two (1,982 or 43.65%) candidates either made a Regular Pass or a Provisional Pass.
The Graduate School
SCALE USED FOR THE GRADUATE SCHOOLS
SUCCESSFUL PASS: Candidates whose average scored is at least 40%.
UNSUCCESSFUL PASS: Candidates whose average scored is less than 40%.
The total of two hundred eighty-five(285) candidates registered for the Graduate School Entrance Exams. Of this number, twelve(12 or 4.21%) candiates were absent.
Of the two hundred seventy-three(273) candidates that wrote the Graduate School Entrance Exams, one hundred seventy-eight (178 or 65.20%) candidates were SUCCESSFUL while ninety-five (95 or 34.80%) were UNSUCCESSFUL. 112 or 62.92% of the 178 successful candidates were males while 66 or 37.08% of the 178 successful candidates were females.
The Medical School
SUCCESSFUL PASS: Candidates whose Science and English scores are at least 50%
UNSUCCESSFUL PASS: Candidates with either Science Score or English Score less than 50%.
The total of one hundred forty-seven(147) candidates registered for the Medical School Entrance Exams; Of this number, only one candidate was absent.
Of the total one hundred forty-six candidates that wrote the Medical School Entrance Exams, thirty-four (34 or 23.29%) candidates made a pass while one hundred twelve (112 or 76.71%) candidates were UNSUCCESSFUL. Of the thirty-four(34) candidates that passed the Medical School Entrance Exams, nineteen(19 or 55.88%) of them are males while fifteen(15 or 44.12%) of the successful candidates are females.
The School Of Pharmacy
Scale Used for the School of Pharmacy
SUCCESSFUL PASS: Candidates whose average scored is at least 40%.
UNSUCCESSFUL PASS: Candidates whose average scored is less than 40%.
The total of twenty-two(22) candidates registered for the School Of Pharmacy Entrance Exams. All the twenty-two(22) candidates were present.
Of the twenty-two(22) candidates that wrote the School Of Pharmacy Entrance Exams, sixteen (16 or 72.73%) candidates were SUCCESSFUL while six (6 or 27.27%) were UNSUCCESSFUL. 10 or 62.50% of the 16 successful candidates are males while 6 or 37.50% of the 16 successful candidates are females.
The total of twenty-two(22) candidates registered for the School Of Pharmacy Entrance Exams. All the twenty-two(22) candidates were present.
Of the twenty-two(22) candidates that wrote the School Of Pharmacy Entrance Exams, sixteen (16 or 72.73%) candidates were SUCCESSFUL while six (6 or 27.27%) were UNSUCCESSFUL. 10 or 62.50% of the 16 successful candidates are males while 6 or 37.50% of the 16 successful candidates are females.

COMPANY SCHOOLS : Those schools that are built and run by companies. The children of the company’s employees attend these schools.
COMMUNITY SCHOOLS: Those schools that are established or built through community initiative and/ or County Development Projects. These schools will later transition to public schools.

Of the total four thousand, five hundred forty-one(4,541) candidates results analyzed from the Undergraduate Colleges, Straz Sinje and the College of General Studies, two thousand, seven hundred ninety-two (2,792 or 61.48 %) of them are males while one thousand, seven hundred forty-nine (1,749 or 38.52% ) are females;
Of the total four thousand, five hundred forty-one(4,541) candidates results analyzed from the Undergraduate Colleges, Straz Sinje and the College of General Studies, one thousand five hundred twenty one (1,521 or 33.49%) candidates passed regularly, four hundred sixty-one (461 or 10.15%) students passed Provisionally, while two thousand, five hundred fifty-nine (2,559 or 56.35% ) candidates were unsuccessful.
This also means that one thousand, nine hundred eighty-two (1,982 or 43.65%) candidates either made a Regular Pass or a Provisional Pass;
One thousand, two hundred eighteen (1,218 or 61.45% ) of them are males while seven hundred sixty-four (764 or 38.55%) are females;
Only 349 or 17.61% of the candidates that passed the Entrance Exams from the Under Graduate, Sinje Vocational College and the College of General Studies are from Public Schools, 710 or 35.82% are from the Private Schools, 867 or 43.74% are from the Faith-Based Schools, 46 or 2.32% are from the Company Schools while 10 or 0.50% are from the Community Schools;
Of those that passed from the Undergraduate Colleges, Straz Sinje and the College of General Studies, 78.81% of the candidates are from schools located in Montserrado County; Followed by Margibi County (6.51%), Nimba County(4.19%), Lofa County(2.17%), Bong County with 1.46%, Grand Gedeh(1.46%) and Grand Bassa(1.31%). The rest of the counties account for less than 1% of the candidates that passed the Exams;
99.65% of the candidates that passed the Entrance Exams are Liberians while the rest are either Ghanians, Nigerians, or Sierra Leoneans;
76.79% of the candidates that passed the Entrance Exams are High School Graduates while the rest are either Current 12th Graders(21.59%) or students from Other Universities(1.61%);
Intended Programs of Enrollment of those 1,982 Candidates that Passed
One thousand, nine hundred eleven (1,911 or 96.42%) candidates passed from the Undergraduate Colleges;
Twenty-one (21 or 1.06%) candidates passed from the College of General Studies;
Fifty (50 or 2.52%) candidates passed from the Sinje Technical and Vocational College;
Which Category of School Performed Better?
10 out of 31 Community Schools’ Candidates or 32.26% made a pass;
46 out of 101 Company Schools’ Candidates or 45.54% made a pass;
867 out of 1,889 Faith-Based Schools’ Candidates or 45.90% made a pass;
710 out of 1,711 Private Schools’ Candidates or 41.50% made a pass;
349 out of 809 Public Schools’ Candidates or 43.14% made a pass;
From the above analysis, it is obvious that the Faith-Based Schools performed better, with 45.90% of their candidates who wrote the Entrance Exams making a pass; The performance of the Faith-Based Schools is closely followed by the Company Schools with 45.54% pass rate.

The total of 4541 candadites results are analyzed from the Undergraduates, Sinje and College of General Studies for the UL Second Entrance Exams;
10.15% of the candidates whose results are analyzed from the Undergraduates, Sinje and College of General Studies made a Provisional Pass while 33.49% made a Regular Pass;
The total of 1982 candadites made either a Regular Pass or a Provisional Pass in the UL Entrance Exams; This accounts for 43.65% of those whose results are analyzed.
The total of two thousand, five hundred fifty-nine (2,559 ) candidates were unsuccessful; This accounts for 56.35% of those those whose results are analyzed.
