Introduction

HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is a catalyzed for AIDS (Acquired immune deficiency syndrome) which is the incurable diseases that well known world widely.

The first case in Malaysia happen in 1986 and starting from that year, the number of cases and deaths has increased rapidly.

To gain more knowledge about mortality rate trend of HIV/AIDS patients in Malaysia, an app has been developed for visualing the mortality data.

This Shiny app is built entirely in R, and the visualisations are made on the dataset provided by HIV/STI Sector, Ministry of Health (MoH) Malaysia.

Data Science Process

  1. Asking a Question

  2. Finding Data

  3. Getting Data (From HIV/STI Sector, MOH)

  4. Analyzing Data (github code link)

  5. Present Data

The App Description/Result

  • Map shows how many mortality case happened in each state for year selected. Eg1.
  • Plot shows Mortal Rate by State, by Gender, by Age, by Occupation and by Risk Factor respectively. Eg2.

Experience using this app

  • The findings of this study is significant to the Government of Malaysia especially Ministry of Health, Malaysian AIDS Council, non-government bodies and other relevant bodies in the management of AIDS in Malaysia.

  • When these parties are aware of the mortality rates of HIV and AIDS patients, they can take drastic actions in improving health facilities or deciding whether to minimize or maximize the budget allocated for HIV and AIDS medicines and treatments.
