The University of Liberia customarily administers entrance and placement exams as part of the vetting process of admission. The test is intended to help determine selection of those who are at least capable of doing college course work without further high school preparation.
This year 2019 FIRST ENTRANCE AND PLACEMENT EXAMINATION RESULTS for the Undergraduate Colleges, Straz Sinje, and the College of General Studies fall into four categories:
REGULAR PASS
PROVISIONAL PASS
UNSUCCESSFUL and
ABSENT.
REGULAR PASS candidates are those who scored at least 50% in Mathematics and at least 50% in English. REGULAR PASS candidates may register for up to 18 credit hours during their first semester in a college of the University of Liberia.
PROVISIONAL PASS candidates are those who scored less than 50% in Mathematics or less than 50% in English but obtained an average score of at least 50% when their mathematics and English scores are combined. PROVISIONAL PASS candidates may register for up to 12 or 13 credit-hours during their first semester in a college of the University of Liberia. The credit hours should include Freshman Mathematics and Freshman English.
UNSUCCESSFUL candidates are those who have an average score of less than 50% when their mathematics and English scores are combined. UNSUCCESSFUL candidates must register again for another UL entrance examination and obtain a pass mark/grade in that exam before they can gain entry to University of Liberia.
ABSENT candidates are those who registered for the University of Liberia entrance but did not turn out for the Entrance Examination. Candidates that were absent must register again for another UL entrance examination and obtain a pass mark/grade in that exam before they can gain entry to the University of Liberia.
A total of eight thousand one hundred eighty-four (8,184) candidates registered for the entrance for Under Graduate, Sinje Vocational College and the College of General Studies. Of this number, only seven thousand, eight hundred ninety-one (7,891 or 96.42% ) candidates turned out while two hundred ninety-six (293 or 3.58%) candidates were absent. Of the total seven thousand, eight hundred ninety-one (7,891) candidates who wrote the Entrance Exams, nine hundred twelve (912 or 11.56%) candidates passed regularly, one hundred twenty-seven (127 or 1.61%) students passed Provisionally while six thousand, eight hundred fifty-two (6,852 or 86.83% ) candidates were unsuccessful.
This also means that one thousand, thirty-nine (1,039 or 13.17%) candidates either made a Regular Pass or a Provisional Pass.
The Medical School
The total of one hundred two(102) candidates registered for the Medical School Entrance Exams; Of this number, only one candidate was absent.
Of the total one hundred one candidates that wrote the Medical School Entrance Exams, fourteen (14 or 13.86%) candidates made a pass while eighty-seven (87 or 86.14%) candidates were UNSUCCESSFUL. Of the fourteen(14) candidates that passed the Medical School Entrance Exams, only one female candidate was SUCCESSFUL.
The Graduate School
The total of four hundred thirty-five(435) candidates registered for the Graduate School Entrance Exams. Of this number, twenty(20) candiates were absent.
Of the four hundred fifteen(415) candidates that wrote the Graduate School Entrance Exams, two hundred six (206 or 49.64%) candidates were SUCCESSFUL while two hundred nine (209 or 50.36%) were UNSUCCESSFUL. 145 or 70.39% of the 206 successful candidates were males while 61 or 29.61% of the 206 successful candidates were females.

COMPANY SCHOOLS : Those schools that are built and run by companies. The children of the company’s employees attend these schools.
COMMUNITY SCHOOLS: Those schools that are established or built through communiy initiative and/ or County Development Projects. These schools will later transition to public schools.
PRIVATE SCHOOLS : Those schools that are run or established by individuals.
FAITH-BASED SCHOOLS: Those schools that are run or established by religious institutions.

The total of seven thousand, eight hundred ninety-one (7,891) candidates wrote the Entrance Exams from Undergraduate Colleges, Straz Sinje and the College of General Studies;
Of the total seven thousand, eight hundred ninety-one (7,891) candidates who wrote the Entrance Exams, four thousand, nine hundred sixty-nine (** 4,969** or 62.97 %) of them are males while two thousand, nine hundred twenty-two (2,922 or 37.03% ) are females;
Of the total seven thousand, eight hundred ninety-one (7,891) candidates who wrote the Entrance Exams, nine hundred twelve (912 or 11.56%) candidates passed regularly, one hundred twenty-seven (127 or 1.61%) students passed Provisionally, while six thousand, eight hundred fifty-two (6,852 or 86.83% ) candidates were unsuccessful.
This also means that only one thousand, thirty-nine (1,039 or 13.17%) candidates either made a Regular Pass or a Provisional Pass; Six hundred fifteen (615 or 59.19% ) of them are males while four hundred twentyety-four (424 or 40.81%) are females;
Only 189 or 18.19% of the candidates that passed the Entrance Exams from the Undergraduate Colleges are from Public Schools, 481or 46.29% are from the Private Schools, 349 or 33.59% are from the Faith-Based Scholls, 12 or 1.15% are from the Company Schools while 8 or 0.77% are from the Community Schools;
Of those that passed from the Undergraduate Colleges, 83.16% of them are from schools located in Montserrado County; Followed by Margibi County (5.00%), Lofa County(2.60%), Nimba County(2.12%) and Bong County with 1.35%. The rest of the counties account for less than 1% of the candidates that passed the Exams;
99.42% of the candidates that passed Entrance Exams are Liberians while the rest are either Ghanians, Nigerians, Guineans or Sierra Leoneans;
89.22% of the candidates that passed Entrance Exams are High School Graduates while the rest are either Current 12th Graders(9.14%) or students from Other Universities(1.64%);
Intended Programs of Enrollment of those 1,039 Candidates that Passed
One thousand, twelve(1,012 or 97.40%) candidates passed from the Undergraduate Colleges;
Thirteen (13 or 1.25%) candidates passed from the College of General Studies;
Fourteen (14 or 1.35%) candidates passed from the Sinje Technical and Vocational College;
Which Category of School Performed Better?
8 out of 112 Community Schools’ Candidates or 7.14% made a pass;
12 out of 107 Company Schools’ Candidates or 11.21% made a pass;
349 out of 2,580 Faith-Based Schools’ Candidates or 13.53% made a pass;
481 out of 3,586 Private Schools’ Candidates or 13.41% made a pass;
189 out of 1,506 Public Schools’ Candidates or 12.55% made a pass;
From the above analysis, it is obvious that the Faith-Based Schools performed better, with 13.53% of their candidates who wrote the Entrance Exams making a pass;
