I am currently going through my Yoga Teacher Training, and am starting to try and build a social media following, so for this assignment I decided to look at the first yoga influencer that built a social media following on instagram and has transitioned to twitter to continue to build her brand, as well! On instagram her name is @yogagirl, and on twitter she is Rachel Brathen. She is the creater of the hashtag #yogaeverydamnday, and has had, and continues to have a huge impact on the yoga community.
Something that surprised me about this ggplot was seeing how far back the data went, I chose her most recent 1000 tweets and was surpirsed that it went all the way back to 2017. The spike that can be seen close to 2019, since I follow Rachel a lot, I realized that this spike in frequency was due to her new release of her new website!
Yoga Girl’s (Rachel’s) following on Twitter is significantly less than her following on Instagram, by a few million at lease. On Instagram she posts every day if not twice a day, the chart above shows how often she tweets, not including retweets or replies. As you can see her activity of Twitter and following is much lower than on Instagram, showing how impactful staying active on your social media accounts can be as an influencer.
As I mentioned, Rachel created the hashtag and movement on Instagram of #yogaeverydamnday. This hashtag has spread to all social media networks, and in most cases has become unattatched from the original reason for the creation of the hashtag. Since Rachel started the movement in 2012-2013, quickly the movement grew and was everywhere, the next visual that I was interested to see was the frequency of the hashtag, and if there was a relationship to her tweet frequency!
## Searching for tweets...
## Finished collecting tweets!
From the chart above, #yogaeverydamnday was tweeted over 1000 times just within the past week.
The most challenging aspect of this assignment for me was first, not having a lot of direction. I am the type of person that really likes structure like the other assignments, but I really think having less structure and allowing me to work with data that I was interested in was really good for my creative growth. My other challenge was getting my Twitter Developer app approved. I created my account on Sunday, and come today(Thursday) it still had not been approved. Friday morning it finally was approved! But with this, a lot of the time with the assignments I am able to run my code, see what it looks like, and then make edits based on what I see. So this was challenging for me because I was unable to see what needed to be changed or even if the codes worked! I will continue to try until Friday! I really enjoyed this assignment and having the freedom to use data that was interesting to us, and I really enjoyed exploring the Twitter data, though it was a bit challenging for me, I am going to keep trying so that I can really explore the data and learn how it works.
