The target users are individuals who would like to attend musical or other thematic events.
Goals are to discover and attend events that are relevant to their musical or thematic interests.
The site can offer personalized events that are relevant to the customer’s musical interests, location, or a topic of interest (ie: talks, courses, etc.).
Suggestions seem to be based off the context of several items such as:
Location: The main page first offers events that are nearby. There doesnt appear to be any further refinement of the events being presented. I suspect this also has to do with any promotional agreements the site has with event organizers. If you click on ‘browse events’ you are taken to a different landing page which displays events that are not only nearby but also popular.
Previous purchases: On the “browse events” landing page, below the “Popular events in NY” section there is another section which displays events based on past purchase of a specific event. This appears to be content-based recommendation of events that are similar to some properties of a previously purchased event.
Search box: The site allows searching for events which appears to return simple keyword based results across different categories of events.
I would implement more dynamic recommendations across the site. I’d add a behavior tracking mechanism on the site to record which events get click-throughs. Additionally, while the site allows you to ‘favorite’ events, it doesnt appear to make any recommendations based on those likes.
Another element I would add is user-generated review for an event. If you purchase a ticket or sign up for guestlist to an event I’d send a followup email asking to rate that event.
I’d implement a “Recommended for you” section on the first post-sign-in landing page that uses similarity matching with the following as parameters (with varying weights):
