INTRODUCTION

The University of Liberia customarily administers entrance and placement exams as part of the vetting process of admission. The test is intended to help determine selection of those who are at least capable of doing college course work without further high school preparation.

The exercises leading to this year UL Entrance Examinations started on Monday, February 4, 2019, with the candidates initially going to the designated banks for payment of the registration fees and subsequently, the following day, proceeding to the Testing Center on Capitol Hill Campus, located in the GH Building (or, Business College) for registration completion.

DEFINITIONS OF KEY TERMS

  • COMPANY SCHOOLS : Those schools that are built and run by companies. The children of the company’s employees attend these schools.

  • COMMUNITY SCHOOLS: Those schools that are established or built through communiy initiative and/ or County Development Projects. These schools will later transition to public schools.

  • PRIVATE SCHOOLS : Those schools that are run or established by indiviuals.

  • FAITH-BASED SCHOOLS: Those schools that are run or established by religious institutions.

  • PUBLIC SCHOOLS : Government owned schools

  • BFO: Business and Finance Office

  • GS : Graduate Schools

  • COGS : College of General Studies

KEY FINDINGS

  • The total of seven thousand, seven hundred eight (7,708) candidates completed registration for the Undergraduate Colleges;

  • Four thousand, eight hundred fourteen (4,814 or 62.45%%) of them are males while two thousand, eight hundred ninety-four (2,894 or 37.55% ) are females;

  • Only 18.7% of the candidates that completed registration for the Undergraduate Colleges are from Public Schools, 45.8% are from the Private Schools, 32.9% are from the Faith-Based Scholls, 1.3% are from the Company Schools while 1.4% are from the Community Schools;

  • Of those that completed registration from the Undergraduate Colleges, 81.85 of them are from schools located in Montserrado County; Followed by Margibi County (6.05%), Nimba County(3.71%) , Lofa County(1.96%), Bong County with 1.66% and Grand Bassa County with 1.08% etc.

  • 99.70% of the candidates that completed registration are Liberians while the rest are either Ghanians, Nigerians, Guineans or Sierra Leoneans;

  • 89.8% of the candidates that completed registration are High School Graduates while the rest are either Current 12th Graders(9.0%) or students from Other Universities(1.2%);

  • Four hundred twenty-four (424) completed registration for the Graduate School Entrance. Two hundred seven-two(272) of them are males while one hundred fifty-two (152) are females.

  • One hundred sixty-nine(169) candidates completed registration for the College of General Studies; One hundred five (105) of them are males while sixty-four(64) are females.

  • Eight-seven (87) candidates canidates completed registration for the Medical School; fifty-two(52) of them are males while thirty-five(35) are females.

  • We received the total of fifteen (15) bank slips for the candidates that made payment to the Banks for the School of Pharmacy;

  • One hundred seventeen (117) candidates made payment to the Banks for Sinje Technical and Vocational College;

  • These findings are based on data already processed by our from February 6, 2019 to March 21, 2019.

  • Payment to the Banks ended on Monday March 11, 2019;

  • Bank Slips of candidates that made payment to the banks are currently beeing verified by the Business and Finance Office(BFO) and fowarded to the Data Entry Clerks for recording;

Exams Dates

  • The Entrance Exams for the Graduate Schools, Medical School, College of General Studies, and SinJe Technical and Vocational School are scheduled for Saturday April 6, 2019.

  • The Entrance Exams for the Undergraduate Colleges are scheduled for Saturday April 13, 2019.

  • The Entrance Exams for the School of Pharmacy and the Law School will be ADMINISTERED during the Second Entrance(s);

Challenges

  • Despite effort by our Registration Team, candidates still find it difficult to distinguish between Faith-Based Schools(Schools owned by Religious Institutions) and the Private Schools(Schools owned individuals); This may make our statistics inacurate in analyzing the Category of School variable;
