INTRODUCTION

The University of Liberia customarily administers entrance and placement exams as part of the vetting process of admission. The test is intended to help determine selection of those who are at least capable of doing college course work without further high school preparation.

The exercises leading to this year UL Entrance Examinations started on Monday, February 4, 2019, with the candidates initially going to the designated banks for payment of the registration fees and subsequently, the following day, proceeding to the Testing Center on Capitol Hill Campus, located in the GH Building (or, Business College) for registration completion.

DEFINITIONS OF KEY TERMS

• COMPANY SCHOOLS : Those schools that are built and run by companies. The children of the company’s employees attend these schools.

• COMMUNITY SCHOOLS: Those schools that are established or built through communiy initiative and/ or County Development Projects. These schools will later transition to public schools.

• PRIVATE SCHOOLS : Those schools that are run or established by indiviuals.

• FAITH-BASED SCHOOLS: Those schools that are run or established by religious institutions.

• PUBLIC SCHOOLS : Government owned schools

• BFO: Business and Finance Office

• GS : Graduate Schools

• COGS : College of General Studies

KEY FINDINGS

• We received the total of Seven thousand, four hundred ninety-nine (7,499) bank slips from the candidates that made payment to the Banks for the Undergraduate Colleges;

• The total of six thousand, three hundred eighty-five (6,385) candidates completed registration for the Undergraduate Colleges;

• Four thousand, nineteen (4,019 or 62.9%%) of them are males while two thousand, three hundred sixty-six (2,366 or 37.1% ) are females;

• Only 19.1% of the candidates that completed registration are from Public Schools, 46.0% are from the Private Schools, 32.2% are from the Faith-Based Scholls, 1.2% are from the Company Schools while 1.3% are from the Community Schools.

• Of those that completed registration, 81.39 of them are from schools located in Montserrado County; Followed by Margibi County (6.28%), Nimba County(3.92%) , Lofa County(2.00%), Bong County with 1.63% and Grand Bassa County with 1.06% etc.

• 99.7% of the candidates that completed registration are Liberians while the rest are either Ghanians, Nigerians, Guineans or Sierra Leoneans;

• 90.0%% of the candidates that completed registration are High School Graduates while the rest are either Current 12th Graders(8.8%) or students from Other Universities(1.2%);

• Two hundred thirty-one (231) of three hundred eighty-one (381) candidates whose bank slips we received completed registration in the Graduate Programs. One hundred forty-seven(147) of them are males while eighty-four (84) are females.

• One hundred thirty-seven (137) of one hundred seventy-eight (178) candidates completed registration for the College of General Studies;

• Thirty-two (32) candidates of ninety-two (96) canidates completed registration for the Medical School;

• We received the total of fifteen (15) bank slips for the candidates that made payment to the Banks for the School of Pharmacy;

• We received the total of one hundred seventeen (117) bank slips for the candidates that made payment to the Banks for Sinje Technical and Vocational College;

• Detailed summary statistics for the College of General Studies, Professional Schools, and Sinje will be given in our subsequent update;

• These findings are based on data already processed by our from February 6, 2019 to March 6, 2019.

• Payment to the Banks will end on March 11, 2019;

• Bank Slips of candidates that made payment to the banks are currently beeing verified by the Business and Finance Office(BFO) and fowarded to the Data Entry Clerks for recording;

Exams Dates

• The Entrance Exams for the Graduate Schools, Professional Schools(Medical and The School of Pharmacy), College of General Studies,and SinJe Technical and Vocational School scheduled on Saturday April 6, 2019.

• The Entrance Exams for the Undergraduate Colleges are scheduled for Saturday April 13, 2019.

Challenges

• Despite effort by our Registration Team, candidates still find it difficult to distinguish between Faith-Based Schools(Schools owned by Religious Institutions) and the Private Schools(Schools owned individuals); This may make our statistics inacurate in analyzing the Category of School variable;
