Nature of Judgment: is the final decision made by a court regarding the rights and liabilities of parties in a legal action or proceeding.
This data displays what type of award was given to the winning party.
Key Terms to know for this presentation:
Monetary Award: An order from the court giving one party a financial award.
Equity Award: Court ordered action to do or stop doing something.
Tort: a wrongful act or an infringement of a right leading to civil legal liability
Tort-automobile: A tort automobile is a wrong against another involving a vehicle, for example a car accident.
Contract: A contract is an agreement between two parties who trade promises that they will do something or not do something
Complaint for injunction/to enjoin foreclosure: when the court joins one of the parties in the case by ordering to do or not to do something to prevent permanent loss of the other party.
Understanding of data:
“1” is if the court awarded a monetary award only,“2” is if the court awarded a monetary award and equity, “3” is if the court awarded just equity, and “0” is if neither money nor equity was awarded
Chart 1 shows that 73 cases were awarded money only, 3 cases were awarded money and equity, and 8 cases were awarded just equity, 260 cases did not award money or equity. N/A were cases awarded something not within those four categories.
data$NOJ <- factor(data$NOJ,
levels = c("1","2","3","0"))
ggplot(data, aes(x = NOJ)) +

Chart 2 and 3 break down Nature of Judgement based on county. The data is split between counties Belknap and Concord. This chart displays that the majority of cases in Belknap did not award money or equity and the majority of cases in Concord also did not award money or equity.

Charts 4 and 5 look at what types of cases awarded what nature of judgement. The first chart shows all cases by nature of judgement and the second chart filters out the least common case types.
The second chart displays the awards given to case types 38, 37, and 2. 38 being complaint for injunction/to enjoin foreclosure, 37 being tort- automobile and 2 being contract-collection.
Case type 37 receieved no money or equity in all final decisions, case type 38 had a majority final decision of no money or equity with some awarded just equity and some awarded just money. Case type 2 was the only case in this chart to have cases awarded money and equity together.

All three judges mostly did not award money or equity.
