Our team’s goal is to create a restaurant recommender system utilizing data from (a) the “Food World Cup” data set from FiveThirtyEight and (b) a web API from Yelp.
This project will rely on two data sources:
The “Food World Cup” data set includes responses to a poll asking for ratings on different national cuisines, along with demographic data from the respondents.
The “Yelp Fusion API” provides a restaurant search capability based on various query terms (including key words and location).
Our deliverable for the project will be a shiny app that will provide a recommended cuisine along with suggested restaurants nearby, based on user input such as personal information (including location) and food preferences.
