Trevor Lawrence was recently named the starting Quarterback of the Clemson Tigers, and is beginning to see more attention and generate more exposure for the college. This page pulls data from 1000 tweets mentioning Lawrence, and aims to provide some useful functions that could evaluate popularity and sentiment of Lawrence and Clemson as a whole.
This graph attempts to pin down the household popularity of Trevor Lawrence by looking at how many favorites a tweet mentioning him gets, barring tweets that have gone viral to an extent, and only looking at those tweets from a commonly used source (Twitter for iphone, android, and the website itself). The average amount of favorites is similar for phone users, but more than doubles for those users on the web. Web based tweets are favorited significantly more than phone based tweets, likely due to the popularity of web based social media accounts like “@ClemsonFootball”
The above graph displays the follower ratio of people tweeting about Trevor Lawrence as it relates to the number of tweets the person has tweeted overall. This shows that high volume twitter accounts mentioning Trevor Lawrence are more likely to have higher follower ratios than those who sparsely tweet, though this drops off suddenly around the 5000 mark. This could be useful to assess the popularity of accounts tweeting about Trevor Lawrence.
This graph shows a simple count of the amount of tweets mentioning Trevor Lawrence using the Clemson hashtag that have been retweeted. This could show the administration how much Clemson representation is being spread on social media thanks to people directly sharing content about the school’s quarterback. As seen above, Trevor Lawrence tweets do not spread to a wide audience when using the Clemson hashtag.
The above graph series shows the different platforms people use to tweet about Lawrence, and breaks down these tweets by the average amount of favorites per tweet compared to the total number of overall tweets from an account. This shows the general popularity of a person tweeting about Trevor Lawrence compared to their overall twitter activity. Iphone users talking about Trevor Lawrence are generally the most popular; Andriod users average a higher popularity than web users, despite more people tweeting about Lawrence on the web. Web based tweets about Lawrence are more common, but typically do not correspond to accounts with high feedback ratios from the Twitter community.
This graph shows the retweet count compared to the favorite count of all tweets mentioning Trevor Lawrence that were interacted with at least once online. Retweets do not start to pick up for Lawrence tweets until about the 100 favorites mark. The few tweets that managed to break 100 favorites saw an incredibly high pick up in retweets. This could be useful for Clemson to see how many favorites a football tweet may need to accrue before retweets start to generate increased exposure.
