Bike Lanes on Market Street and JFK Boulevard

Bike lanes were installed on Market Street and JFK Boulevard. A sample of the travel time data was taken both from before bike lane installation and after installation. Travel times for each street segment were summed to get total travel times for Market Street and JFK Boulevard between 15th and 20th Streets. Below, mean travel times before and after bike lane installation are presented. Average travel time on Market Street is about 10 seconds longer after bike lane installation than before installation. Average travel time on JFK Blvd is about 22 seconds longer after bike lane installation than before.

The below figure shows the differences in travel times of JFK and Market (between 15th and 20th Streets) by day of week. The difference between pre- and post- bike lane travel times are virtually non-existent on Fridays and Sundays. Note: Only 11 days of data are available for before bike lane installation, so the day-of-week sample size is quite low.

The figure below displays percent difference in travel time comparing time periods before and after bike lane installation. Below, Market and JFK are separated into blocks containing bike lanes (15th Street to 20th Street) and those not containing bike lanes (20th Street to the Schuylkill). The data in the figure below correspond to the table above.
