Data from the mtcars dataset in R is used in the following chart to illustrate the apparent effect of car weight (1000 lbs) and transmission (automatic / manual) on miles per gallon (mpg).

It can be observed that fuel consumption of lighter, manual transmission cars is better than that of heavier, automatic transmission cars.
