Provide a written summary of your data collection, analysis and visualization methods, including the why you chose your methods, and what tools you utilized.
The Data for this analysis was collected from FitBit Blaze. The data is exported from the website in a comma separated values format. Currently, the data is spread over a month long duration from 04/15/2018 to 05/19/2018. Some of the values in the data are missing as the FitBit was not correctly in use at the time of activity snapshot.
The Data contains attributes such as Steps, Distance, Floors, Sedentary Minutes, Light Activity Minutes, Fairly Active Minutes, Very Active minutes, Activity Calories, Calories intake, calories Burned, Weight and BMI.
There is some data for Sleep Activity as well such as minutes asleep, minutes awake, number of awakenings, time in bed, Minutes of REM Sleep, Minutes Light Sleep and Deep Sleep.
The Data Tools used mostly from tableau are text summary tables, Date Filters and Line Charts. Text tables were used to summarise the results in a concise fashion and the line charts were used to see quick trends around an average for each month. The Date filter allowed us to filter dates for April as well as May separately. This way we are able to compare the activity between the two months.
In April the average number of minutes I slept was 319.8 versus the 306.2 in May. In April month, I could have better sleep overall. This is inline with my overall activities as the Month of May was very hectic for me while preparing for certification exams, school work and office I was getting less sleep overall.
In April, on an average I burned 2699 calories, while in May I burned only 2,680 as I had less time to hit the gym.
In April, the stairs climbed were 4.31 while in May the number of stairs climbed were 5.94. The number of floors climbed are higher in May as my workplace had one fire drill and one fire alarm in the workplace building, so I had to climb up and down lot of stairs on those days.
Average Steps walked in April were 4120.6, while in May the average steps were 4642.1. The step count increased as I took more walking breaks during the workday to manage stress at work.
In April, I walked 2.03 miles on average while in May, I walked 2.28 miles on an Average. This was due to the same reason as listed above.
Overall the conclusion of this analysis is that in month of May, most of my activity was driven by workplace related activity. However, I did not have as good sleep and did not burn as many calories due to time crunch in the month of May which was due to hectic work schedules, preparation of certification exams and school assignment work.
This analysis about myself is helpful in future healthy weight and sleep management and overall live a healthier life. This is yet another example of the power as well as impact of Data Visualisation. The work can be expanded by collecting more data about heart rates and observing correlation between difference of calories in and calories burned with weight lost or gained.
