Complex interactions in time-oriented dataset are very hard to visualize. Here we show a intuitive diagram called Chord Diagram and Bubble Diagram to visualize data from 5 Malaysia Public Universities. Our dataset is obtained from the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) yearly reports from 2015-2017. https://www.mohe.gov.my/muat-turun/awam/statistik/
We collected the data of the top 5 universities in Malaysia, UM, USM, UKM, UPM, UTM for comparison.
They contain data about student intakes, outputs, enrollments, disabilities, and staff.
Most data preprocessing are done using excel, since the size of our data is relatively small,about 400 entries. Data from multiple years are combined together into one single file.
Modern Data Storytelling.
Traditional diagram usually able to visualize information in 2 entries only, but chord diagram able to visualize the inter-relationships between multiple entities.
An alternative style of visualizing time series line graph, with the area of disk represent the value compared to the y-axis on the traditional graph.
The programme also can automatically sort the disks in descending order, from the center outward.
