Most sessions were attributed to the same country/continent after switching on IP anonymisation. However, when it comes to the city level accuracy, only 66% of the IP-anonymised visits were attributed to the same city, and 14% of the visits were attributed to the adjacent cities within 50km (About the distance from London to Luton). Therefore, despite the average disprepancy in distance being 198 km apart, 80% of the visits have less than 50km disprepancy (or no disprepancy at all).
You may find the details on the discrepancy distribution plot in the next section.
| Continent Level Accuracy | Country Level Accuracy | City Level Accuracy | Avg. Distance (km) | Max Distance (km) | Distance within 50km % | Distance within 200km % |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 99.55% | 98.58% | 65.57% | 198 | 17808 | 79.88% | 89.06% |
Mobile visits are generally more accurate comparing to desktop/tablet visits.
| Device | Continent Level Accuracy | Country Level Accuracy | City Level Accuracy | Avg. Distance (km) | Max Distance (km) | Distance within 50km % | Distance within 200km % |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Desktop/Tablet | 99.52% | 98.44% | 62.90% | 212 | 17808 | 78.45% | 88.32% |
| Mobile | 99.80% | 99.60% | 84.62% | 98 | 9574 | 90.04% | 94.31% |
IP-anonymised visits from Americas (the continent) appear to have higher accuracy comparing to Europe. On average, only 57% of the visits from Europe were attributed to the same city, whereas for visits from Americas the average city level accuracy is 77%. Distance-wise, mis-located visits from Americas also have fewer discrepancy distance than Europe.
Visits sample size from Africa, Asia, and Oceania are not large enough to provide sufficient confidence for this assessment. Therefore please treat accuracy figures regarding those continents with caution.
| Continent | Continent Level Accuracy | Country Level Accuracy | City Level Accuracy | Avg. Distance (km) | Max Distance (km) | Distance within 50km % | Distance within 200km % |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Africa | 100.00% | 100.00% | 78.12% | 35 | 526 | 90.62% | 93.75% |
| Americas | 99.70% | 99.40% | 76.62% | 238 | 17808 | 88.77% | 92.28% |
| Asia | 99.79% | 99.79% | 81.70% | 141 | 13715 | 89.75% | 91.42% |
| Europe | 99.41% | 97.90% | 56.71% | 192 | 12810 | 73.87% | 87.32% |
| Oceania | 100.00% | 100.00% | 80.67% | 253 | 15899 | 81.36% | 85.59% |
Though the maximum distance can be as large as 17808km, the majority of the visits are being located to the same city, or cities with 50km.
Comparing to desktop/tablet, IP-anonymised visits from mobile generally have higher city-level accuracy rate across all continents.
After IP anonymisation, almost none of the sessions that were originally attributed to Windsor got allocated to Windsor anymore. So where did all those sessions go?
Please check the details in here.
| Geo.Level | Full.IP | Anonymised.IP | Percentage.Increase |
|---|---|---|---|
| City | 4.01% | 4.86% | 21.30% |
| Country | 0.45% | 0.45% | 0.00% |
The number of sessions with (not set) value in their city field increased by 21.30% after IP anonymisation.
