When looking into the S language created by bell, I have found that those who were involved in creating it, had the new S be what is now similar to R, which is a free software that we are currently using. The S system is a language that focuses on organizing, vizualing, and analyzing data. There are several different data languages as we know. Languages such as SAS, R, SPSS, etc. I looked into what the old version of S was and what the currently new version of S is. Something interesting that I found about S is that it is more interactive. The old S included interactive graphic devices. When they made changes to what is now the new version of S, they made it so there were new features such as how certain functions could be passed to other fuctions. The biggest change that was focused on the new S was the syntax. As we know, R is a free and open source software. R provides different statistical techniques such as linear and nonlinear modelling, classifications and clustering, etc. R and S are both similar of course, because they are both designed around a computer language. R is a little different from other computer laguages such as SAS because unlike SAS and other languages, R is free and open source and can be customized and cloned. R can also be redistributed unlike other data languages.
