S is a language that was developed as a project in the bell laboratories. The development was created for data analysis, statistical modeling, simulation and graphics by transitioning macros into functions. The S language programming was one of the first statistical computing systems created and since there have been replicas; an example is the S’ clone the R language. Unlike the S-plus language, (which is the newest edition) is a free open source software allowing for a widespread of users. The R language is a different dialect to the S language and has become the dominant language amongst the two languages. The R language is like an introduction to the S language, the difference is that certain functions are not interchangeable and must be altered. In addition, R uses lexical scoping which makes coding simpler by giving an object a reference of parameters, variables, constants, types, and functions. Since the S language is more highly developed it uses dynamics scoping creating global identifiers. On a graphical level the S-plus has highly developed graphical interface for users whereas, R has a minimal graphical interface.
