Basic Data Exploration

  • The Titanic sunk on it's maiden journey on April 15th, 2:20 AM
  • Only about 700 out of 2200 passengers and crew survived
  • It has been stated that based on
    • Sex
    • Passenger class or fare paid
    • Cabin location … and more
  • it could be well predicted, if a passenger survived or not.
  • Hence it became a data science exercise and a competition on kaggle (see https://www.kaggle.com/c/titanic)
  • The following interactive plot shows age vs. fare with 4 categories of dots (sex, survival-status)
