K-Means Clustering
To begin the analysis k-means clustering is used with 6 different groups to differentiate the colleges initially. The following lists the colleges and the cluster they are in and then puts them in order by those clusters.

The graph is difficult to read but some overarching conclusions can be drawn from it. The six clusters are condensed in three general areas so using three clusters could generate better results. There also seems to be a large number of public schools listed in the lower right corner. So, to see if being a public or private institution is significant in distinguishing the clusters the following code is run.

The only variable whose group means don’t appear to variate greatly among the six clusters is estimated book cost and when a one-way ANOVA table is created the F value and p-statistic agree with that observation. The cost of books is not significant enough to distinguish the clusters.

The new table for public colleges has a slightly higher F value and the p-statistic remains significant. The new table for books has a lower F value and a higher p-statistic, meaning it has an even smaller significance and doesn’t differentiate the clusters.
