Motivation

My main goal for data science is to help improve the education system. Soon after I started working for my local school district I had my first child. Five years later, now with two and four year old boys, the education system is an important topic for me and my wife. Questions like, “What school should they go too?”, “Is Private really better than public?”, and “What makes this school better than the other one?” are constantly coming across in our conversations.

Problem

The problem I want to solve is focused primarily on elementary schools. I want to know any and all differences between ‘good’ and ‘bad’ schools and find some paremeter(s) that has a positive correlation to ‘good’ schools that would be benificial to ‘bad’ schools.

Data

I will mainly pull the school data from the Department of Education and/or US Census Bureau.

To find what are considered good schools or bad schools I will probably scrape the school rankings from schooldigger.com or use their API.
