In Australia, suicide is the main source of death for males and females age between 15 and 44. In a common year, around 3,000 individuals in Australia die by suicide. That is a normal of 8 individuals consistently. A suicide attempt is the most huge hazard factor for further suicidal behaviour. This report presents summary statistics on deaths registered in Australia where the underlying cause of death was determined to be suicide. These statistics were compiled from data made available to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) by the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages in each State or Territory. Data are presented for suicide deaths registered in the years 2007 to 2016, by sex and age group and method of suicide. State and territory death from suicide are also presented.
