Hi and welcome to Data Analysis and Visualization course at YTU. I hope you enjoy what you’ll learn in this course.
Throughout the course we’ll be using many technologies thus an orientation is required for smoother experience.
In the course, we’ll:
One of the textbooks that we’ll be following, “R for Data Science” by Hadley Wickham is actually served over Github, we can download its R code and compile it into html format. And the contents of the book is available online.
Please visit this link and fill the form for usernames for each of the websites mentioned above. Please be aware that, avoid using cryptic and embrassing usernames (such as excalibur ;)
Here’s an example how data analysis and visualization can have impact. Below is the legendary presentation from Hans Rosling at TED.
This is the moment where Hans Rosling, very excitedly, describe the Life Expectancy vs Fertility Rate data animation. Also, he mentions linearity between Child Survival and GDP per capita at 9m27s.
Higher resolution video can be found at TED website.
Here’s the Gapminder website developed by Gapminder foundation. Gapminder not only provides beautiful visualizations but also liberates the data. Visualization part of our course will be using the Gapminder data and you’ll be able to create animations (shown below) for analyzing multitude of data.

I created a virtual classroom in Datacamp. I’ll send invitations to your email addresses. After you join, you can follow courses and assignments.
Let’s go to DataCamp and start first course “Introduction to R”
