- Observational
- This is a Cohort Study because it has an identified group (1739 people) who are then observed over a long period of time The resopnse variable is any type of heart disease and the explanatory variable is the level of happiness.
- This is a Case Control Study because it requires the women to look back in time at their coffee consumption habits to determine whether higher consumption resulted in a higher or lower chance of having skin cancer. The response variable is reduction in nonmelanoma skin cancer, and the explanatory variable is the consumption of 6+ cups of caffeinated coffee per day. It was important to adjust for these variables, because although it was not considered in the original study, it could have an effect on the value of the reponse variable. For example, women who drink 6 or more cups of coffee a day may also be more likely to have certain demographics/lifestyles.
