Overview

The Meteoritical Society collects data on meteorites that have fallen to Earth from outer space. This dataset includes the location, mass, composition, and fall year for over 45,000 meteorites that have struck our planet.

For this particular exercise, we will plot a world map with all the landings of small meteorites (less than 1,000 grms) observed during years 2000 to 2016. We’ll be able to see each one of the ~8,000 events with a circle marker, colored based on the meteorite mass.

Also, by clicking on any marker, the name, class, specific mass and year of fall / found event will be shown.
