Summary
The focus of this experiment is to determine the types of events that have the greatest economic consequences and the ones that are most harmful with respect to population health.
The strom data was downloaded from the NOAA Storm Database, then read into R for further processing.

The number of fatality and injuries were summed up by event type and the results shown in the following barplot. Based on my findings, Tornados are most harmful when it comes to population health followed by excessive heat.
library(plyr)
library(ggplot2)
# Summing up the number of fatalities and injuries by event type
event_summ<-ddply(storm,"EVTYPE",summarise,events=sum(FATALITIES+INJURIES))
# Reordering the top 10 most harmful events from most harmful to least harmful with respect to public health.
top10events <- event_summ[rev(order(event_summ$events)),c(1,2)][1:10,]
# Plotting the results
ggplot(data=top10events, aes(x=reorder(EVTYPE,-events), y=events)) +

Economic consequences were summed up by event type and included property and crop damages. Based on my findings, Tornados caused the most property and crop damage followed by flooding.
