An Introduction

Hi there! It’s Amanda here. I’m a student at Wake Forest University pursuing my master’s in Business Analytics. I would love to say I know exactly which career path I’m pursuing, but that is still to be determined. Ultimately, I want to be able to make recommendations and decisions that influence the direction of a product or company. I love doing just about anything with my friends and, as a result, I rarely take photos that are of only myself. Instead of a solo shot, the picture is from when my younger brother came to visit me in Madison, WI.

I am an outgoing person with a love for my friends, family, travel, and sports. While living in Madison, I played in quite a variety of sports in the Madison Sports and Social League. Not to brag, but we were the 2017 kickball champions.

Two people who have played a huge role in shaping me into the person I am today are my siblings. They are:

Academic Background

I attended Wake Forest University for my undergraduate education and graduated in 2015. While there, I studied Business and Enterprise Management with a concentration in Marketing. I studied abroad for a semester in Copenhagen, Denmark and fell in love with the city. I took extremely interesting classes while there, of which my favorite was “Criminology in Scandinavia.”

Professional Background

I have spent the past two years working at Epic, a company of over 9,000 employees that is a world leader in software development for healthcare organizations. For the majority of my time there, I was a Quality Assurance Team Lead. I worked very closely with the Developer Team Leads to manage the quality and projects for our product. The specific product I worked on was an application called “Tapestry” and it is used by managed care organizations for everything from patient enrollment to claim adjudication.

Before that, I interned at Lowes Foods locally here in Winston Salem. They needed branding interns because they were undergoing an entire corporate brand overhaul. They changed everything: the physical stores, the layout inside, their marketing campaigns and ads, etc. It was an extremely unique opportunity and it was so exciting to be on campus and hear students saying “Did you all see the new Lowes?!” and know that I’d been a part of it.

Experience with R and Other Analytical Software

Zero. Zilch. Nil. Nada.

Though I’ve worked at a software company, my job basically required me to think not like a developer. I was an expert in the functionality of the software, but I knew nothing about the code.
