Introduction to Sarah

Hi! I’m Sarah. I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. My hobbies outside of the classroom include bodybuilding and keeping up with makeup trends. I am a proud hijabi (Muslim woman who wears a headscarf), so if you are interested, feel free to ask me questions!

My favorite equation is the Rescorla-Wagner model: \(\Delta V_{X}^{n+1}=\alpha_{X}\beta(\lambda-V_{tot})\). This equation was developed for classical conditioning (think Pavlov’s dogs). It is a traditional way of mathematically representing learning in a task.

Academic Background

Professional Background

I conducted my independent research in computational and theoretical neuroscience. In my research, I used R and Python to simulate neural responses in timing behavior. Essentially, I was developing a mathematical model that illustrates the optimal behavior in interval timing. Unfortunately, we have not published our progress yet (large in part due to my inevitable graduation). A good introduction to the work I did with my advisor can be found here.

Other than my personal research, I do not have much “professional” experience, unless you include delivering pizzas and babysitting children.

Experience with R

In addition to my personal research, I have used R extensively in the majority of my upper-level math classes. As a result, I am quite proficient in R, but thus far my utilization of R has been restricted to primarily math purposes. I am excited to apply it to business!
