Sarah Hayakawa

Introduction to Sarah

Hi! I’m Sarah. I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. My hobbies outside of the classroom include bodybuilding and keeping up with makeup trends. My favorite equation is the Rescorla-Wagner model: \(\Delta V_{X}^{n+1}=\alpha_{X}\beta(\lambda-V_{tot})\).

Academic Background

  • B.S. Neuroscience (Bucknell University, 2017, Lewisburg, PA)
  • B.A. Mathematics (Bucknell University, 2017, Lewisburg, PA)
  • M.S. Business Analytics (Wake Forest University, 2018, Winston-Salem, NC)

Professional Background

I conducted my independent research in computational and theoretical neuroscience. In my research, I used R and Python to simulate neural responses in timing behavior. Essentially, I was developing a mathematical model that illustrates the optimal behavior in interval timing. Unfortunately, we have not published our progress yet (large in part to my inevitable graduation). A good introduction to the work I did with my advisor can be found here.

Experience with R

In addition to my personal research, I have used R extensively in the majority of my upper-level math classes.

Experience with Other Analytic Software

  • Excel
  • MATLAB
  • Python
