Jacob Goodling

This is my personal bio! Please enjoy the ride.

Hi all! My name is Jacob Goodling and I am a native of Jacksonville, Florida. I grew up a stone’s throw from the beach, but my heart belongs to the mountains of Western North Carolina where I spent my Summers growing up. For the past four years I attended UF in Gainesville, FL and just earned dual bachelor’s degrees in Statistics and French last Spring. In my spare time I am a competitive archer, I love cats and traveling, and I am passionate about experiential education for youth and environmental issues.

In the above photo, you can see both my face and my forced school pride.

Fun fact, both the cords and the graduation cap that I’m wearing were borrowed from a friend, because I didn’t want to spend $50.

Academic Background

Based on the number of degrees I have earned in higher education, I can be considered: A really smart and cool guy.

Professional Background

I am currently pursuing a degree in Business Analytics at Wake Forest University. My past work experience includes the following positions:

  • Teacher’s Assistant at UF
    • Instructed courses in Stats 1, taught labs, graded work, and tutored students outside of class
  • Head Cook for Eagle’s Nest Camp
    • Management position that included leading a team of 12 and serving as a liaison between kitchen staff and camp program
  • Research and Lab Assistant at Klee Lab
  • Camp Counselor at Eagle’s Nest Camp
    • Where I developed most of my interpersonal skills and other non-discernible “identity capital”, as described in our required text The Defining Decade by Meg Jay

Experience with R

  • I have used R in several statistics courses during my undergraduate studies, including Regression, Design of Experiments, Multivariate Analysis, and Categorical Data Analysis.
  • The bulk of our assignments that used R incorporated minor coding, creating tables and graphs, and interpretation. We never used R Projects or R Markdown.

Experience with other Analytics Software

  • As a TA I worked with students in Minitab and Excel for basic statistical analysis.
  • I also have a small amount of coding experience with Java and C.
