Two Degree Options

  • Interdisciplinary Studies (major) with a Concentration in Occupational, Workforce, and Leadership Studies
    • Master of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies (degree)
    • Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies (degree)


  • Management of Technical Education (major)
    • Master of Education (degree)


  • Both may be completed online or in hybrid format

Interdisciplinary Studies

  • 39 credit hours (13 courses)
  • 5 courses are specified
    • Introductory Course
    • Leadership Development Course
    • 3 course research sequence
  • 8 courses selected with your adviser
  • Must include 4 departments/designators, 3 colleges, 3 departments with 6 hours or more and no more than 15 hours from a department outside OWLS
  • May include certificate program, such as Certified Public Manager, Public Ethics, or Corporate Training

Management of Technical Education

  • 36 hours (12 courses)
  • No formal “exit sequence”

  • Option 1: Career and Technical Education (7 courses) AND Educational Leadership (5 courses)
  • Option 2: All CTE and OCED courses

Audience for Managment of Technical Education Degree

Designed for those who manage, plan, evaluate and administer technical education in settings:

  • industrial or corporate training
  • training in public sector or military
  • career and technical education in K-12 or post-secondary settings
  • prisons

Timing

  • Most students complete in 2-3 years
  • Must be completed in 6 years

Courses

  • Most in department are online (with a few hybrids) - use TRACS and other online tools
  • Courses in other departments may be online or face-to-face in San Marcos or Round Rock

Admissions

For “non-international” students with a bachelors:

  • 2.75 GPA on last 60 undergraduate plus all graduate hours (NO GRE)
  • for under 2.75, conditional admission may be offered with GRE (GRE Required)

    For “international” students with a bachelors:

  • See Graduate College Website for specific requirements (depends on visa/citizenship/residency/country of origin)
