Feedbacks to suggestions from professor and groupmates. (Unfortunately, it seems R markdown updated my draft automatically so I can’t display my former draft here…)

Suggestions: animating plot seems contain limited inforamtion in comparison among several companies and states; Inconsistancy of figure numbers; Adjust the font size to make the page look more neatly; it is better to take out the R code in your final submission.
Feedback: R code is removed from the output. I also realized the limitation of animating plot, so in order to show comparisions of top 10 most complained companies and states, I simply use stacked bar charts which could show both total number of complaints as well as other categorical distribution within each company/states. Animating plots here just serve as a more intuitive insight of each company/State. Overall, the stacked bar charts did a great job to answer the questions I’m interested in.

The data come from Customer Financial Protection Bureau from Data.gov. People care about their money, so the customer service experience related to financial products is crucial for customers. To download the data: https://catalog.data.gov/dataset/consumer-complaint-database

Here I create several plots to show some interesting information of customers’ complaints in U.S.

Question (1): In financial industry, how did tcomplaints distribute in different financial products?

Question(2): Top 10 companies with the most complaints

Comments: I’m interested in the top 10 companies with most number of complaints received. This may serve as a guide for customers to choose their business partners. However, also be aware that large companies may be more likely to receive more complaints.

Question (3): I’d like to show the habbits of customers’ submitting their complaints among the top 10 states with most number of complaints.

Comment: Email is the main way for customers to submit their complaints, which I don’t think is efficient enough. And it’s amazing to see peole hate making a call directly to financial companies. People are too shy to make phone calls or ficnancial companies’ customer service still need to be improved.

Maryland(MD) has far more financial complaints than all other states in US. Although the reason is still unknown based on the data, customers in MD should be cautious about their financial business. Be ware that most of top 10 comapnies above are all mid-west states, which may indicate that it’s essential to improve the busiess and customer service for the financial companies in this area.
