Course Project: Shiny Application and Reproducible Pitch using CDC data

Overview: This was built as part of a deliverable for the course Developing Data Products as part of the Coursera Data Science Specialization.

The app developed for the first part of the assignment demo is avalilable at: https://machinelearner452.shinyapps.io/develop_data_product_shiny_cdc/

Source code for ui.R and server.R files are available on the GitHub repo: https://github.com/machinelearner452/CDC-and-shiny/blob/master/cdc-shiny.R

The tidy data set can be found at https://github.com/machinelearner452/CDC-and-shiny/blob/master/cdc%20working%20data

Web Application functionality

The sites is providing a tools for the users to visualize how 13 different health outcomes are occurring across the top 500 cities in USA, based on 2014 data.

This product is a cut at a minimal viable product (MVP) of the Health web site with the concept of Zillow© + Health = NOillhealth.

The product is being developed as a multiple generation product that will allow [R] users (Data Scientist), students and professionals to build this product together, following the Wikipedia model. The ownership, incentives and/or monetized to a product(s) level is under development and inquiries are welcomed. https://github.com/machinelearner452/

Web Application functionality (con't)

The use of the MVP is meant to be simple and interactive site that provided data that is not well understood to non-health professional. As we are using just 500 USA cities as the starting data set, the market will start small, but can grow to the global overnight view as additional and well established data sets are added.

The use is simple, open the site, user the user selectable item on the right and hit submit to see the request health outcomes display as a leaflet circle marker on the USA map. As this is still in the MVP stage it is best to refresh the map after every submitted request.

The data used in the app comes from the CDC web site. The full data set can be found at: https://chronicdata.cdc.gov/500-Cities/500-Cities-Local-Data-for-Better-Health/6vp6-wxuq#Export
