Advanced Modeling

Urgent Care preemption

The Model

Taking model 9-1 and granting priority to Urgent Care patients from both the Exam Room and Treatment room facilities was accomplished using a single add-on process at the Input Node of the Trauma Room at “Entered”. I will outline the process and discuss the results.

Add-on Process

Add-on Process

Using a state “toggle” (the real State variable endDelay), essentially on/off on a delay mechanism inside the treatment and exam rooms, this process checks the ResourceStates of each room and determines if a Doctor needs to be released and seized by the Trauma Room for Urgent Care.

Essentially, there are three Decide Gateways checking if 1) Exam Room is being used, 2) Treatment Room is being used, and 3) if the trauma room is already utilized.

Then there is a delay with a 30 minute duration, surrounding an interrupt, on one or the other (exam or treatment) servers depending on current Resource State. After the Doctor has been released, the delay is then removed, allthewhile controlling the offswitch (endDelay) for the server interruptions.

Suggestions

It is difficult to suggest anything for model 9.1, considering the original model is extremely backed up after its run time. Adding this modification ever further slows down wait times, including for severe patients.
