Introduction

The shiny webapp, state.x77 Explorer app, hosted at https://manifits.shinyapps.io/states/ is a wk4 assignment effort for the Developing Data Products course.

The state.x77 dataset contains various information about 50 states in the US as of the 1970s. We created a dataframe with the fields: state.region, state.name, state.abb, Population, Income, HS.Grad and Illiteracy.

The Application

The left side panel allows users to select the US region. At the top there is a Main panel and a About.

The former is where the bulk of the application resides. The latter provides some information about the app.

The Main panel has two tabs. The first is Plot and the second is Data.

The Main Panel

On the Plot tab, the user can select to display the US choropleth map by Population, by Income or by High School Graduates.

When the user hovers over the states, the relevant parameter is displayed in a pop up.

The Data tab displays the downloadable data in a table.

The plotly map and data are reactive in that changes to the selection criteria will refresh the maps and table accordingly.
