First three episodes: No expense spared This is a splendid production, top notch casting, Spacey is back on his game after a recent career of missteps, boondoggles and occasional brilliance.Robin Wright as Claire Underwood, wife to Spacey's character, is stunning -- even Underwood's office manager Evelyn (not credited) brings credence to the cast.Kate Mara (older sister of Rooney Mara) is fantastic as a go-getter of a reporter who manages to push through what Spacey's character knows will benefit both of them. She knows her assets, but just barely. There are numerous directors involved, it will be interesting to see how they handle their segments, and if the series can persist in making reprehensible characters intriguing, and earnest characters look clueless. 2 February 2013
Series Three Sucks What happened to series three? Even though the personnel on the masthead were the same, it looks like they turned the writing over to the interns without any kind of editorial or thematic direction. The principal characters have fallen apart. This Frank Underwood appears to be more virtuous and caring than recent presidents Clinton, Bush, or Jarrett. In fact almost any period from their White House tenures would be more eventful, devious, and exciting than the crap we saw in this series. This was a massive disappointment. I get the sense that the actors were as impressed by the writing as I was because it looked like they were phoning in their performances. I'd be amazed if they go for a serious four after this fiasco. 7 March 2015
Netflix gamble is a definite winner! First of all, whoever decided to release the entire season at once is a genius. With most people wanting more and more instant gratification, viewers are "binge" watching entire series in one weekend anyway. Netflix must be paying attention to their user statistics and following suit. Now, on to the show. I love the complexity of the characters and how everything is interwoven. Spacey is absolutely stellar. I love his dialogue with both the characters and directly to the audience. House of Cards is definitely not your typical political show, I see most others as being stiff or boring, but HOC is exciting and engaging. The music composed for scenes is also very well done. Overall, this is a great series, and I can't wait to watch more! 1 February 2013
Season 3 is hideously disappointing The show degenerated into a soap opera, and one with characters who are so consistently icky and so consistently...uh...consistent that I found myself not only uninterested in them, but unable to care what they were doing or what happened to them. The whole thing just made me sad that in a few months I have to watch this whole scenario play itself out in real life, with characters just as icky. The American political scene is so corrupt and so beyond redemption that making a soap opera like this one out of it reveals only how boring it's all become. Save your money and watch the original British series. The characters aren't any less icky, but ant least they're more interesting. 1 March 2015
review from a captive audience Help! My partner is making us watch this show episode by episode, and he can tell I actually spend most of the hour looking away from the screen and scowling. I just wait for it to be over from the second he presses play. It's just not healthy for me to keep watching a show when I wish terrorists would break in and kill the protagonist at every moment. I don't want Frank Underwood to succeed. I don't want to know what he's up to next. I don't want any of his friends to support him. I would hate to think anyone in actual government is like this man. Where is Brutus when you need him? Seriously, someone please stab Kevin Spacey's character to death sometime soon, so this travesty won't have to continue. This show leaves me with no one to root for, and no outcome to events that I actually want to see come about. It forces us to listen to Kevin Spacey periodically talking to the audience, when we've long since ceased giving a damn what he's thinking or how he'll justify his next move. One wants to take a shower after every episode, and were it not for my partner's insistence, I would have stopped watching this after the first three or so episodes. There are no spoiler alerts here because I just don't care anymore how it turns out. I wish I had the freedom to stop watching it. Don't waste as much mental energy as I have wasted in hating this character and everyone involved in bringing him to our television sets! 4 October 2014
3rd season is a big failure Unexpexted failure all of the 3rd season. Totally based on feelings that never appear before. Surprise how easily one of the best serials become total bullshit. In case of Russian president - OK, no question let him be like this, but sensitivity of main characters and decisions made not based on politics but on human being - its out of question in political world. Very bad, and very upset. Gay scene between president and a writer ?? Oh please. Senator changed mind due to children ? Nightmare. President wife sleeping in a Russian jail(yeah it looks like 3 star hotel) and speaking hours with some delusional idiot who made suicide after ? Looks like an idiot makes scenario. Not sure about waiting for season 4. 5 March 2015
The worst season one could only imagine It's the worst season ever! Such a disappointment and wasted hours of my life. Shame on the producers and scriptwriters for ruining a great project. I was such a devoted fan of the first two seasons. I love the cast so much. And now I feel like I've been cheated. They ruined the characters, the main and the secondary story-lines. They filled the script with lies and speculations about the other countries. It turned out to be the most boring and predictable show ever. I wish I didn't know the season 3 of House of Cards existed.I won't watching a minute of this worthless chewing gum any more! 1 March 2015
Great, great, great This is an excellent effort by Fincher and Netflix, and helped reestablished some long waning confidence I've been having in the modern movie/TV studios model. They have finally given us what we want, good shows without forcing loud, obnoxious commercials down our throat, and at a reliable price. The real question is, is it sustainable? I think it is, but we'll have to wait and see. I was really excited to find out about this show and yet surprised that I hadn't found out about it sooner. Netflix hardly did any marketing on this series, and as a Netflix subscriber, I never came across it on their site or elsewhere. I only found out about this reading through David Fincher's IMDb page looking to find what his next project would be. Today is the first day the series is available, and there are banner ads on websites like the NY Times, but wow, I can't believe they didn't try to build up more buzz than this. Well, with a new revolutionary series model, I guess Netflix determined they also need a new marketing model as well. I can't wait to see the rest of season 1, but am also looking forward to more offerings from Netflix. Finally, a party just for the viewers and the creators, but without those annoying middle mad men. 1 February 2013
Season 3 - HOC has now jumped the shark big disappointment, especially considering the quality of the previous seasons (especially the first, which I'd consider must-watch material). Season one had the rise & fall of Pete Russo, and the Underwood's' gradual ascent to power. season 2 had the the underwood/tusk/walker duel and the Doug/Lucas/Rachel situation. Season 3 basically boils down a long examination of the Francis/Claire relationship. Nothing inherently wrong there, but that shouldn't be the main focal point of the season. Much of this season is about Claire trying to assume more responsibility than the first lady position affords. She convinces Frank to appoint her as a UN representative, and then there's a key moment early on when she betrays Frank's trust during a press conference with the Russians. It's a monumental screw-up. Problem is the reasons for her betrayal don't make sense - she acts completely different from what we'd expect from a character we've come to know. The writers lazily construct some framework to explain her reasoning, but it still doesn't ring true given the stakes involved. There are other moments like this (albeit on a smaller scale) throughout the season - moments where character motivations don't make sense, and you can feel that the writers are being lazy and just writing to create shock value or drama. Some other things that didn't work: -too much focus on characters watching CNN to provide exposition or move the plot (i don't remember it being this bad previously) -Remy doesn't do anything the whole season -Doug doesn't do really do anything either (sure they give him some busywork but there's no real payoff), and it takes way too long for the whole Rachel dilemma to resolve itself -i think this season relies too much on overt references to the current political climate. the Russian prez is an exact copy of Putin(that said, Lars Mikkelsen's performance as an over-the-top "Putin" is one of the few highlights), congress can't get anything done, unemployment is high, etc... the parallels are too easy to see, and there isn't enough subtlety employed.TLDR: subpar writing and a boring story make for a weak season. Claire spends much of the season being annoyingly passive-aggressive, and Yoko Ono-ing her way through Frank's presidency. 17 March 2015
Way too unrealistic In general, i think House of Cards is OK to watch. But, how on earth is it possible that everybody other than Frank and Claire Underwood is as naive as a high school teen? The president's wife asking Claire for marital advice, come on! And then there is Frank and the president, while being in an important meeting, talking about the president's marital problems.Oh, and every time someone is not doing what Frank wants, Frank knows exactly what to say and all of the sudden the whip, a billionaire, the president, whoever, turns 180 degrees and you guessed it already: now they do what Frank wants! All the turning points and plots are so made up and so far from reality, it's frustrating. And then there's the huge soap opera influence: Frank and Claire smoking a cigarette together every night in front of the window, Frank who says 'i love you Claire' way too often, the cozy late night runs..Is it OK to watch? Yes. A 9.1 rating? Give me a break. 6 October 2014

Pioneering Perfection I firmly believe that one of the major aspects of what makes House of Cards so good is the ability to watch all the episodes back-to-back with no commercials or programming schedules to get in the way. This small but hugely significant idea will be an industry game changer and I am certain that this is just the beginningTo me, the biggest advantage that this idea contributes to House of Cards is that it frees up significant time during episodes because it makes things like flashbacks or repeats of events almost completely redundant. There's simply no need for them because everything is so fresh in your mind, which leaves all that extra time for more story, more action, more conspiracy, more drama, more of the stuff that viewers really want to see. However it must be said that it does take a few episodes to get used to this, and you have to be really switched on and completely focused to ensure you don't miss a beat, because you really will pay a price if you do because what's said is never repeated, only referenced further down the trackAs for the show itself, I can't sum it up any better than by saying it's incredibly good to watch. The one aspect of the show I enjoy the most is the monologue, or removal of the fourth wall, between the viewer and Underwood. It's an incredibly effective method of storytelling as well as the expression of emotion or opinion, and Kevin Spacey does a superb job at pulling it off, along with every other aspect of his complex and intriguing character. The quality of writing, directing, and storytelling is as good as you'll ever see on the best shows in the world right now. Underwood has a massive ship to steer, and it is fascinating watching how he does it, through manipulation, blackmail, greed and determination. Each and every character has a critical role to play - there's no characters you could cast aside as being irrelevant or unnecessary to the story. That is a very difficult feat to achieve, and House of Cards easily passes that testIf you're going to pioneer something, like Netflix have with how viewers can watch House of Cards, you have to do it well. Everything has to be perfect, otherwise it will flop. A top quality show in House of Cards coupled with the worlds best internet streaming service is a very very good place to start. Netflix and the House of Cards team deserve a huge round of applause for daring to go places where no one has gone before. The $100 million gamble has definitely paid off, and I cannot wait for moreNeedless to say, House of Cards earns a 10/10 rating, and an absolute must-watch from me 2 February 2013
An American Twist on a British Classic When I thought about Francis Urquhart of the original House of Cards series, I could not help but imagine Kevin Spacey in a way that was similar but a role of his own making. Spacey's role of Francis Underwood, in Netflix's original series, is nothing short of a tour de force. The convenience of being able to watch the whole season right away is also something to mention as a new, fresh and exciting method of television excellence. No longer do we have to wait and be fed slowly the episodes as we wonder what might happen and find ourselves somewhat disappointed -- now we can be swept away. And that's exactly what will happen to you when you sit down to watch this. 13/10. 1 February 2013
Netflix's Foray into Original Programming is off to a Promising Start Fans of David Fincher and Kevin Spacey have been eagerly looking forward to House of Cards. Not only is this an opportunity to see an elite Hollywood director and actor take on a new medium, but it represents Netflix's first attempt at original programming (I guess Lilyhammer came first, but House of Cards is a much bigger investment for Netflix). The CEO of Netflix has said that House of Cards is meant to be a show on the quality level of the top cable stations, such as HBO, and the final product delivers on this promise.House of Cards follows several characters involved in the political scene in Washington D.C., including politicians of various rank and influence (Kevin Spacey is a House Majority Whip in the House of Representatives) and an upcoming reporter played brilliantly by Kate Mara, who you may recognize from the first season of American Horror Story. The cast in uniformly excellent and thrives under Fincher's direction. Occasionally, Kevin Spacey's character will talk directly to the camera and offer some narration, which is the only area where the show stumbles, but it isn't too distracting. Speaking of Fincher's direction, it shouldn't come as any surprise to know that House of Cards looks great. The atmosphere is moody and resembles a tone somewhere between The Game and The Social Network. The music is equally good, complementing the mood of the show without becoming overbearing. Being a political drama, one could be understandably weary of taking the plunge into a 13 episode season if they don't find politics interesting, but that shouldn't be a concern. The writing is sharp, engaging and clear, and the characters are interesting and well developed. The editing helps: it is tight and keeps the plot moving briskly, making the political intrigue both exciting and easy to follow. Netflix has really created something impressive with House of Cards. When hearing that an online streaming service was creating an original show, some may have been concerned that it would be cheap looking and generally not on par with what AMC, FX, Showtime, and HBO are offering. Well, Netflix got some talented people and gave them the money to make something good, and the product speaks for itself. House of Cards comes highly recommended. 1 February 2013
Excellent! Just watched the first episode. It is outstanding in every sense of the word. Fist of all I'd like to say, Kevin Spacey is amazing. He's not the dull politician we're used to seeing, he's a deeply written character with nuances to his actions and speaking. You can definitely see Fincher's style in the first episode, at least. It contains some of the similar themes he has tackled before in his film and adds to those. He crafts the story very tightly woven and complex. Kate Mara is also great, she adds to the list of modern Fincher characters. I love the points of satire in Spacey's character and some of the symbolism used. The show is outstanding in every aspect, unlike a lot of other political dramas on TV, can't wait to watch the next episodes.Definitely a must watch for any fan of TV or Fincher or anyone interested in this. 1 February 2013
As good as the original I was so looking forward to this, having been a big fan of the original BBC series, with its masterful central performance by Ian Richardson. In fact when I logged in to Netflix (like a lot of people, this show is my sign-up moment), I realised that my expectation level was really high.Within the first 30 seconds, Kevin Spacey's character Frank Underwood has killed something- in this case dispatching an unfortunate dog which has been hit by a hit and run driver. And as the political intrigue starts to develop around him, Spacey just fills the screen. By the end of the first episode, it isn't so much that you have forgotten Ian Richardson as Urqhuart, Underwood's British cousin, but realised that Spacey is taking us somewhere different. With Francis Urqhuart you got the impression he was always a psychopath, waiting for the trigger to start his Macchiavellian and murderous rise. Underwood seems to be just a more clever, more ruthless and less hypocritical politician than those around him. The fundamentals of the show - the scorned and bitter political back room fixer, the Lady Macbeth figure of Francis' wife, the ambitious young woman journalist, but all updated.Mrs Underwood is no Tory wife, waiting "in the country" while her husband charts his rise to power. She is the one giving him the backbone to do it. And as we see her brutally wielding the axe at the charity in which she works, it becomes clear she is no slouch in the ruthlessness stakes herself. The character of Zoe Barnes, the young reporter, is in a lot of ways more rounded than Matty Storin in the British version. Here she is ballsy, ambitious and a bit ruthless herself. While she retains the innocence of the character, she gives the impression she thinks she knows what she is doing. Which will make later episodes much more juicy as she realises she is way over her head. The show is shot beautifully, as you'd expect from the calibre of the team behind it, and the production values are excellent. Supporting roles are great. It looks like a movie or The West Wing before they ran out of money. But the undisputed joy of this series is Spacey, who is a more world-weary, more cynical Francis, and who is setting about his task of revenge and ambition much like he destroyed the unlucky dog at the start of episode 1: its an unpleasant task but someone has to do it.Spacey is every bit as good as Ian Richardson in this show and Netflix's big gamble deserves to pay off. 2 February 2013
Breathtakingly good show From the start, Kevin Spacey captivates & impresses with his his portrayal as the Machiavellian chief whip. The dialogue is superb, the editing tight, & the plot moves at just the right pace.I'm 7 episodes in at the moment & so far it hasn't missed a beat. I remember the original house of cards on the BBC in the early 90's, & at first hearing there would be a US remake, had some concerns, how would they ever match up to the quality & acting, would they still do the Jacobean theatre style breaking of the 4th wall speaking directly to the audience? I needn't have worried, Kevin Spacey handles the role with aplomb, although Ian Richardson originally had a hint of a twinkle in his eye when about to pull peoples strings, Kevin Spacey is far more emotionless, cold blooded & menacing. Both work equally for the part.Launching on Netflix was a brave move & I really appreciate being able to binge on episode after episode, of this exciting intelligent new drama. 2 February 2013
Highly addictive political drama and darkly funny satire with an amazing cast - and yet another example of Kevin Spacey's versatility I love spectacular TV-shows with amazing production values like Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead, but I have to say: although House of Cards has little interest in jaw-dropping images or gruesome make-up effects, it delivers just as many dark thrills to keep you glued to your seat as the action-heavy flagships of HBO and AMC. It's a testament to the writers', directors' and actors' talents that a show which mostly consists of people talking is as much a prime candidate for binge- watching as the shows I've mentioned before, so for those of you who haven't started watching it yet, be warned: House of Cards is highly addictive. The show is based on the acclaimed BBC mini-series of the same name from 1990, but while the original show focused on the inner workings of British politics, the remake is entirely US based and concentrates on the rise of power-hungry congressman Francis Underwood who is played by Kevin Spacey. On the surface, the show might appear to be a political drama - which it certainly is - but it's also so much more than that. House of Cards combines a vast number of genres; it's a thriller, a love story, a black comedy and a satire - and a very interesting lesson in US politics, which, given creator Beau Willimon's profound knowledge on the subject (he used to work as a campaign aid for Hillary Clinton, Bill Bradley and Howard Dean), is probably a lot more accurate than what we would like to believe. It's also worth mentioning that House of Cards was heavily inspired by certain works of William Shakespeare. The character of Francis Underwood is a combination of Richard III and Macbeth, and in true Shakespeare manner, he often addresses the audience directly to inform us of his evil schemes. As in the bard's two famous plays, the villain is also the protagonist and - to a certain degree - the person you root for. And what makes him so much fun and so compelling to watch here, is - of course - Kevin Spacey's performance. Spacey's portrayal of a charming but deadly predator is simply perfect; despite the character's obvious willingness to go to extreme lengths to get what he wants, Spacey always keeps him believable and avoids the temptation of making him appear like a caricature or as over-the-top as Richard III in the play. He really seems to relish the opportunity to give us yet another example of his versatility, and while all the cast are excellent (especially Robin Wright gives an amazing performance as Underwood's equally ambitious wife and partner in crime), this is without a doubt his show - and it's very hard to imagine anyone else playing Underwood. To sum up my overall impressions: Under the guidance of David Fincher (who serves as an executive producer on the show and also directed the first couple of episodes), Beau Willimon has developed one of the smartest and most entertaining TV-shows - with one of the most impressive casts - contemporary television has to offer. Highly recommended. 9 stars out of 10.Favorite films: http://www.IMDb.com/list/mkjOKvqlSBs/Lesser-Known Masterpieces: http://www.imdb.com/list/ls070242495/Favorite TV-Shows reviewed: http://www.imdb.com/list/ls075552387/Favorite Low-Budget and B-Movies: http://www.imdb.com/list/ls054808375/ 6 December 2015
Delicious plot, cast, and design As I was describing the show to a friend, I couldn't help but use the adjective "delicious." The characters are so strong, manipulative, and persuasive. Viewers come to "House of Cards" for political thrills, for back-door deals, and for machinations, and the series feeds your appetite. Spacey's performance is, of course, phenomenal. I was particularly impressed by Wright, I found her character the most intriguing of the series. The series is filmed beautifully, each scene screams production value, and this is perfect. The series has some occasional and blatant product placement that definitely ruined the tone; however, if these infrequent advertisements enabled the creation of the series: advertise away. 3 February 2013
Best political drama since the West Wing Outstanding! Outstanding! After watching the first episode I had to continue watching all the episodes. It's edgy, sexy and with a bit of dark humor. Francis Underwood is the first democrat I would ever vote for. The characters are well developed and extremely well casted. Robin Wright and Kevin Spacey are phenomenal and the supporting cast keeps the show moving smoothly and with no drop in continuity. With only a minor amount of policy discussed, it is easy to follow for the non political enthusiasts. Congrats Netflix and I hope there's more like this to come. 2 February 2013
Lives up to the potential, Feels like an HBO Production When I heard Netflix was doing a show directed by David Fincher, my personal favorite director, I was excited. The story sounded a little broad, but still I was pumped. I'm here to say it's as good as I could've imagined. This is a great show. Watched the whole season in one day, which is how I believe TV should be viewed. I've noticed TV has been getting better and has surpassed movies for sheer entertainment. The best TV shows, Game Of Thrones, Breaking Bad, BoardWalk Empire, have Movie qualities and tell amazing stories. Welp, we have another winner. The acting is on point, especially Kevin Spacey. He's almost type cast and there's no real stretching he's played this character like 5 times, there's even a Horrible Bosses reference if you can believe it, but he's great. The supporting actors are also good. A lot of times what can ruin a good show is too many sub plots, but it's all very focused and deliberate. Also, this is an adaption of a BBC Series and it has some hints of it, with Spacey breaking the fourth wall and text messages appearing in real time. Gives it a specific vibe very smart. This is clearly Fincher's answer to Boardwalk Empire. Scorsese is the guy for Period Piece Gangster films and Fincher's direction feels so comfortable here. Even the aesthetic is clearly Fincher's work recalling Zodiac, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and Social Network. Beautifully shot and great pacing. For the average viewer who likes sophisticated TV Shows this is for them. For any Fincher Fanboys this is a must see and it's only 7.99 on Netflix.***** SPOILERS & UPDATE**** After sitting on it and thinking about the show it still holds up, my only warning is that the start and end of the season are great and in the middle there's is a two episode transitional period which changes the pacing, but it quickly picks up and delivers and seeing as you could just watch them all in one day, it's hardly worth mentioning. 1 February 2013
First two seasons I tuned in to see what would happen next, third season I tuned in to see IF anything would happen Like most people, I loved the first two seasons. But this third season...boring...where's the intrigue? This third season is all about how hard it is to be president. Uh, yea, we know that. In the first two seasons you built a storyline and where you asked us to invest a certain amount of hatred on the two protagonists for their numerous improprieties. You did a fantastic job of making us want to nail this bastard and his conniving wife. But now you've manipulated the story asking us to relate to them, sympathize with them and actually like these people? Boo. I liked that I didn't like them before. Now, I don't like that you're asking me to like them. 11 March 2015
Disappointed Being an avid Kevin Spacey fan, I really thought that this would be an excellent series to watch. I've never been more wrong in my life! While I know that no politician is 100% good, neither do I believe they are 100% bad, and yet that is how Mr. Spacey's character, and the character of his wife, are portrayed. He and his wife (played by Robin Wright) are the epitome of horrible politicians. While I'm certain that there have been those running for any government office who have done what these characters are doing in this series, I cannot understand the need to make them absolutely 100% villains. There is no mercy in either of these characters. They use/abuse any and everyone who gets in the way of achieving their goals. I overlooked the first acts of affairs, and using people. This seems to be the accepted practice in political circles. But to take one couple and make them repeated killers, bisexuals and to have them engage in, not only affairs, but also "three way" sex? That is going overboard in my books. But I continued watching right up until I saw, in my honest opinion, the ultimate act of irreverence. When Kevin Spacey's character was in the church, looking up at Jesus on the cross...and spit in the face of Jesus. I don't care whether or not he or his character believe in God. What I do mind is how offensive this truly was. Even the series "Breaking Bad" and "Sherlock Holmes" had good points to their "bad" characters. Why does this have to be all bad? As for the rest of the cast, there is no limit to the sexual acts in this series. In fact, it seems that the whole thing revolves around sex. Whatever you are into you'll find in the series somewhere, being played out by one or more of the main characters. 7 March 2015
NOT FOR THE THINKER. Plots are obvious, people are too stupid. We started watching Season 1 and by Episode 6 were disgusted with the main characters. Everyone is just plain stupid except for the two main characters played by Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright. You can see every setup a mile away. Yet as noted those who are caught in the cross hairs are portrayed as being complete imbeciles who never see it. And best of all there is NEVER any investigation into anything, apparently the media, law enforcement, and related characters just assume everything is real. In one particular scene, a Secret Service agent, who BTW was also a former trained police officer, was so stupid that he fired his weapon in a residential neighborhood during what was a non-life threatening situation. I thought I only saw stupid thing like this network TV but apparently the same writers are here too. What BS they expect you to believe. It's bad enough to see Kevin Spacey's character, Frank Underwood, as a self-centered ego maniac, but then to add Robin Wright as his power hungry slutty wife who will do anything she needs to for her benefit or Kevin's, it's way too much for those looking for some form of reality. BOTTOM LINE: If you like seeing stupid people up against bad guys who while not overly clever always win, only through the sheer stupidity of those they interact with this show is for one. For those with an IQ over 85 who prefer seeing a plot that is not so obvious, this show is one to avoid. 5 March 2015
Too predictable. Well I join the choir of people who express deep resentment watching this show.To engage yourself in a story don't you have to empathize with some of the characters...? Well....? Maybe I am supposed to be intrigued and fascinated with Mister Underwoods excellent skills at playing deceitful and turning the tide of events in the political system to serve his purpose again and again - but I don't.The theme of deceit is simply too easily identified and can be predicted in such a way, after watching two or three episodes, that you know more or less which structure the rest of the episodes are built around.Every single person has given up any kind of personal integrity. They can the threatened or bought to do whatever Underwood wants. The only happy end I can imagine would be if the Whole place blew up.Regards Simon ps. This series has an average vote of 9 from the users of IMDb! 12 March 2014
Why season 3 is a complete failure, but not the first 2 seasons Here's the thing: the first 2 seasons were something of pure genius, but the third season was just a major disappointment. I've never been a TV fan; I am a devoted cinema worshiper..but the House of Cards was nothing like "TV", and nothing like cinema. The first two seasons were more like strategy games, gamers should know that, and it's no surprise Frank Underwood himself is a PS4 addict. The plot, and the whole strategy, was built on Frank's obsessive vengeance that took him all the way to the White House. As he climbed himself to the Oval, he let us become part of his inner voice, turning every now and then to the camera, freezing time and space to utter few but visionary words that we shall never forget (there is a Wikiquote page documenting the complete works of FU). But the third season was empty, aimless display of Frank's absolute power that eventually turned the plot into something absurd..emotionless. No more quotes, no more strategies, no more House of Cards! I'm looking forward to the next season, unless something drastic happens to the course of this unique experience, it will become yet another missed opportunity to create something unforgettable. 12 May 2015
Season 3 does not meet expectations. Yet. I have just arrived at episode 35 but still waiting for the suspense I experienced in Season One and Two. So far Season Three is just a collection of stories around made up political incidents like those in West Wing. I'd rather see a plot developing like you see in other blockbuster series such as 24, the Following and indeed House of Cards One and Two. Still five episodes to watch though after which I shall post a final judgment. The quality of the acting is beyond doubt of the highest standards, the casting even better. But I wonder if the storyline comes from the same scriptwriters as before. My rating therefor is relative to the previous seasons. 1 March 2015
a nauseating program about how sausage is made I've seen only the first season. (DVDs of the second and third are waiting.) The negative reactions come from "the usual types" who object to strong language (grossly exaggerating how often it's used); expect a story to have at least a few "likeable" characters; * and protest good, decent actors playing degenerate characters. Hey, people, "House of Cards" is about politics, where the abuse of power is the raison d'etre and the sine qua non.How you react will probably be influenced by how much of a misanthrope you are. Well, just as Frank Underwood detests children, I detest humanity, and "House of Cards" gives me no reason not to. Indeed, in invites an overwhelming desire to see Washington, DC, destroyed by nuclear weapons. What makes "House of Cards" so remarkable is the writers' seeming knowledge of exactly what goes on behind closed doors. This, more than anything, keeps the story from degenerating into shallow melodrama.I was surprised at the writers' willingness to address what remains a major no-no in television -- male/male sexual relations. One of the few "human" things about Frank Underwood is his lasting friendship with Phil Langdon, a fellow student at The Sentinel. They appear to genuinely care about each other, and neither is guilty or apologetic about a brief sexual relationship thirty years earlier. (Langdon is played by J C MacKenzie, an adorable li'l scudder, probably selected for his resemblance to Shelby Foote.)Anyone who thinks "House of Cards" isn't a reasonably accurate depiction of what goes in the world should take a look at the current insanity in Washington. Swift would have loved it.* I was taught in screen writing class that the viewer must have empathy for the characters. That is, //understand their motivations//, regardless of how repulsive they might be. 18 March 2016
Season 3: a very long pilot to season 4 Season 3 review:This season felt like a long, must-do set up of a sensational Season 4. That's where all the plot lines point to and in retrospect, how they feel after finishing this season. The Russian angle didn't get as tense as I was hoping it to be, mostly because Victor Petrov is played as a really charismatic guy and the strings he pulls aren't as interesting as those pulled by the politicians in season 1 and 2. Sure, the cast is great . The show looks great (except for the final showdown between Frank and Victor, which looks like a soda-commercial) and I really like all those fancy dresses, but in the end I feel a bit hollow. This season reminded me of how much I loved season 1, and that's not really a good sign. I really hope they live up to the promise and expectations they laid down here because the show might just fall flat when they don't deliver an explosive Season 4. 1 March 2015
Good Acting Bad Script While I find the acting in the Netflix series House of Cards overall very good, I find the script is lacking in realism. No Vice-President has the power of Frank Underwood to cause the fall of a sitting President through impeachment. Vice-President's are powerless. There is way too much mumbo jumbo and non believable scenes to make this series anything but a low level soap opera. I find it appalling that the majority of the critics are praising such a shallow portrait of Washington politics. If Washington has anything near Frank Underwood the U.S. is in serious trouble. Why not produce a more realistic look at Washington which already has enough intrigue for a compelling series. 12 August 2014
Why Do So Many People Like this Show? I am struggling through the third season of House of Cards and frankly am hanging on solely because I've invested so much time in it up to now, but I am just about to bail. I can suspend disbelief to enjoy a show, but there needs to be at least a scintilla of reality to hold my interest in a show that is not supposed to be a complete fantasy. Every plot twist hangs on the most ridiculously unbelievable premises and the characters are such caricatures they are almost allegorical. Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright mug their way through the show playing cardboard personifications of evil duplicity. None of the main characters are likable and most of the foils to them are dupes who have no idea what the President and First Lady are up to even though any viewer with two brain cells to rub together can see the developments coming from a mile away. Having watched the West Wing and its pretty spot-on portrayal of what back room politics in White House is REALLY like, House of Cards is almost laughable in its ham-handed attempt to paint Washington as a den of intrigue. The large number of overwhelmingly favorable reviews is a sad commentary on how little it takes to entertain the average TV viewer. 16 October 2015
A trite cliché of a cliché wrapped inside a yawn. Like a bad soap opera. Just brutal! I guess if you love a good cliché show then this is the one for you. If you have never watched West Wing, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington , C-Span or any other thing with even a vague reference to the political system then perhaps you'll find this show interesting.Do you want a Great political show? Try; Boss, Chicago Mayor with the mellifluously voiced Kelsey Grammar as the main character ....Or Brotherhood- Long Island neighborhood politics...Those are great shows with real characters. I keep waiting for Spacey to break out into..."Somewhere, beyond the sea,she waits for meeeeeee! Oh well netflix, your first foray into complex series is always a tough one. 26 May 2014
Disappointing, predictable and occasionally well acted Anything that Kevin Spacey does is usually worth a look, but this series misses the mark. The problems start in the very first episode, which resorts to a blatant "deus ex machina" to advance the entire series plot in the form of a partially shredded education bill that ends up in the intended "wrong hands," thereby setting into motion the grand plot to secure the Vice Presidency for Mr Spacey's character, Rep Francis Underwood. BTW- Underwood intends to ascend to the VP spot not through an election, but by appointment, by enticing the sitting VP to give up his job and to go back to Pennsylvania to run for governor, the job he left to take the VP spot on the newly elected President's ticket. Sound far fetched? Uh, yeah! The release of this toxic early draft to the press is central to the entire plot moving forward. We're to believe that Rep Underwood purposefully and personally half-shreds a document in front of the eyes of the newly appointed Education Secretary who wrote it, and that neither this Secretary nor anyone on his staff had the smarts to fully shred the document after Rep Underwood leaves the office. All that's left is for one of Underwood's operatives to dumpster dive after hours to retrieve said document - psst: it'll be easy to find...it's the half shredded one! - so Underwood can turn the document over to the insufferable cub reporter Zoe Barnes, who will unwittingly initiate Underwood's plot by getting the contents of the toxic bill published in the Washington Post, er, Herald. This sets up an unbelievable set of domino-like circumstances that lead to one person after another falling victim to Underwood's lust for power. By Episode 3, we're to believe that Underwood - the Democratic Majority Whip - has somehow pulled off a major coup by getting the House Majority Leader of his own party to unwittingly run a challenge to unseat the House Speaker, a plot that when discovered costs the Majority Leader his job. Underwood pulls off this little coup by going against his own party, getting 205 Republicans to pledge their votes to oust the Speaker, coupled with the help of 13 renegade Democratic Representatives. We're asked to suspend disbelief in a scene where the three men meet privately, with the Speaker believing the Number 3 man in the House (Underwood) over his right-hand Number 2. It all falls apart as planned: the Speaker retains his job, the Majority Leader is ousted (replaced by a member of the Black Caucus hand-picked by - guess who? - Underwood) and Underwood's first major victory in his quest for the VP slot is secured. And what is the comeuppance for that #3? Why, nothing! In a town where everyone knows the deepest secrets of everyone else, we're supposed to believe that Mr Underwood's Majority Whip faces no retribution from his own party for conspiring to lead a Republican-dominated coup against a sitting Speaker in his own party. We're to believe that no one sees any personal political advantage in informing the Speaker that his #3 is a dangerous man, a man who by Episode 10 or 11 resorts to murder to clean up a mess he's created. (BTW - the murder happens when Underwood leaves a car running in a garage to asphyxiate his drunken victim. He wipes down the car to erase his fingerprints. Question: if the police are going to check for fingerprints on the dead man's car, wouldn't the total lack of fingerprints on the driver's side door and the steering wheel set off alarms that maybe this wasn't a suicide?)All of the characters in this series are self-centered assholes who draw little happiness from anything they do. None of them seems to have a game plan that considers an end game - it's like high school, where the bullies spend each day finding new ways to bully different people with no reason or ultimate purpose behind their actions. Sadly, each character comes off as a half-written caricature of a human being. They're all unidimensional and transparent.Because of this, the series is quite predictable. Scene after scene evolves exactly as one expects it to evolve. I found myself imaging lines of dialog that then came out of the character's mouths an instant later, I kid you not! Other reviewers have noted the many, MANY asides Mr Spacey has. I know that this is a sop to "Richard II," upon which the original House of Cards was based, but this breaking of the fourth wall becomes tedious rather quickly, especially as the asides do nothing but confirm what we've already inferred was Rep Underwood's inner monologue. The music to the series is dull as dishwater as well, annoying, in fact (it's like the music from "Glengarry Glen Ross" coupled with the remake of "The Italian Job."). So much so that I was muting the opening credits by Episode 3. There's also way too much music serving as background to dialog. Like I said, it's annoying. That said, there's some good acting going on, especially when one considers the unimaginative material. This is another series that didn't live up to the hype I've heard. I will say it's better than "The Newsroom," which has even more stereotypical characters and leaden, unnatural dialog than this, but that's not saying much.4 out of 10 - worth watching at some point, but not exactly high on the list of things to do. 7 August 2013
Wow Based on a book by Michael Dobbs and a British show of the same name, House of Cards tells a story of an ambitious and maleficent US congressman Francis Underwood, played by Kevin Spacey, who schemes his way to more and more power.Having only seen bits of the British version, it appeared to be smarter but less exciting an expected cliché difference between anything American and British. Ian Richardson who plays the main anti-hero of the British show is a known name and his character has a certain charm, but the American Kevin Spacey isWell, Kevin Spacey is Kevin Spacey. He is not seen in the mainstream movies nearly enough, but anytime he shows up, he always takes over whatever scene he is in. Kevin's performance can be hypnotizingly delicious and several hours of it are more than welcome. He is best at playing villains and how fortunate is it that House of Cards puts a villain in the front seat. One of the main gimmicks of the show is that Francis talks directly to the viewer, commenting on various events, and these monologues are some of the best moments in the show. In short, this was a perfect casting. There is one issue with his acting. Although Spacey is great in his role, there is a constant recurrence of a particular type of performance that is rather annoying. When Francis Underwood talks to someone whom he tries to manipulate he talks in a special voice, in a sarcastic tone. The makers of the show could not have been unaware of this so it is surely done on purpose, presumably to inform the viewer when manipulation is happening, but why? This type of performance can be seen in many other shows and movies and its use there either seems silly as well, but especially in a serious show about politics, considering the kind of viewers who would watch it, why does the show feel the need to dumb down the manipulation? After all, the show does not explain the workings of the various political systems so why use the funny voice when talking about them? The scheming of Francis Underwood is delightful to watch though, as he puts his arrogance, greed for power and hatred behind the steering wheel, especially because they are realistically implemented into his character. Frank is not a cartoonish villain but a person who sees as weakness the moral barriers that prevent most people from stooping down to using overly depraved methods in achieving their goals and so he thinks himself to be stronger and smarter. But he too is capable of exhibiting honorable emotions, even if they still ultimately stem from arrogance. Though the Underwoods are destroying most people around them in cold blood they still form emotional attachments to certain people, but only as long as those people are loyal and subordinate to them. It is nice to see a largely consistent and complex character on TV instead of the empty pages that you see in most other shows, that change from episode to episode depending on what is being written into them. There is some inconsistency though. Francis is presented as a mastermind, but twice during the show he is personally involved in murder. This seems counter to the ruthless intelligence that is attributed to him and really interrupts the flow of the show. Murder is stupid. It is usually hard to execute well and is extremely risky, especially for a character in Frank's position for whom a mere implication in a murder case would mean the end of his political career. An impulsive murder committed out of absolute necessity may be understandable but that is not how House of Cards plays it out.And the murders are not the only situations in which the show "jumps the shark". There are multiple moments where it goes too far for the sake of adding spice to politics, but no doubt these moments will not be a problem for many people who do not have interest in realism. I get irritated when I see something unrealistic or inconsistent happening while playing computer games, but I know that many other players only care about the entertainment value. The story starts going down towards the middle part of the 2nd season as it becomes considerably more dry and contrived. Lots of talking makes it seem like something complicated and manipulative is going on when in fact it does not. Motivations are mysterious and many conversations start to carry the conspiracy tone of the X-files series. All the while most characters act as clueless pawns in Frank's game. If they were going to make serious national and international politics part of the show they should have done it well. People who say that real politics are boring are wrong. Look at CNN, look at BBC there is so much stuff going on. Jon Stuart made a career covering the comedic side of politics alone. However, even if the show occasionally feels forced or dry, Kevin pulls it through, and if I am honest, I do not care what that man talks about as long as he does it on my screen. So in conclusion, Kevin Spacey. 1 March 2014
Celebrating Moral Bankruptcy I wanted to like this show so much I attempted to watch it twice. Now after my second attempt (which got me to Episode 7 in Season 1) I've given up. I'm puzzled why and severely depressed by this show and (even more so) it's success. Who wants to watch morally dead, power & success hungry a**holes rule one of the most powerful nations of the world. Are people admiring these characters? If so- why? Because they are successful? Rich? Powerful? Is that what the American dream has turned into? Success, Power and Money trump everything else? Compassion, love, humour, fun, integrity are all just cute characteristics for the (stupid) middle class? Are people supposed to aspire to be like the people on this show? Or are we supposed to stop voting because if a show like this is accurate there's no point because the only way to get ahead in politics is to give up everything you believe in ?I'm a compassionate people lover (who still believes in human kind) - get me out of here! 22 August 2015
Meh I really wanted to like this. I hadn't watched TV in some years (about 15 years or so), and had been tempted to dip into Breaking Bad after having been told from several sources that it was worth watching. Those sources were right with regard to that other production. So, I started looking around for another series to watch that might draw me back to television, and this one had high recommendations. I didn't watch the original 1990 British series on which this is based, but remembered it being highly regarded at the time. And I like Kevin Spacey, so this seemed to be worth a shot. Honestly, though, I just found it to be as dull as ditchwater. The basic premise is that Kevin Spacey's character doesn't get the job he had been promised in an incoming Presidential administration, and so sets about playing petty personal politics amongst his peers, seemingly at first to get his own back (apparently without success), but then increasingly for reasons that are just unfathomable. e.g., he gets some Congressman off of a DUI arrest, and thereafter that Congressman seems willing to sell his soul and basic principles for the lamest of reasons. There's no additional benefit to him, but he keeps doing favours for Kevin Spacey's character anyway. Perhaps I'm naive about human behaviour, but I don't think that's how the real world works. I found myself thinking that the DUI Congressman character would instead in real life quickly just have said "Thanks for getting me off that one time, but I did you one favour in return so we're even now". That's not what happens in the story. For some reason he instead feels compelled to keep doing whatever is asked of him, whatever the personal cost to him or the people that elected him.I found I couldn't really care about Kate Mara's character either. She starts off as a keen young journalist, being leaked stories by Kevin Spacey's disgruntled character. She ends up being just another paper thin young female character that falls out of her clothes a little too easily and for reasons as equally unfathomable as the DUI Congressman's motivations. All-in-all I found very little compelling about this series. The dialog was dull, and the storyline didn't ring true. It's so clumsily written that at times it completely tears the suspension of disbelief. Is this really what's passing for Emmy-winning now? The motivations of the main characters were difficult to understand or sympathise with. I gave up on it half way through episode 5.I get that it was meant to be some kind of deep and insightful political commentary. A showpiece for Kevin Spacey's masterful political subterfuge. But the fact is the main caricature (and I think I do mean 'caricature' rather than character) is just some chump that's so politically unsavvy he doesn't even get the second-string job he was angling for, and consequently spends the rest of his time acting like a mardy kid. Getting people fired, losing his wife some much needed financial support, and screwing young women that apparently find him implausibly physically attractive. It comes across more like an impotent old man's fantasy than Machiavelli's The Prince. 7 December 2013
House of Cards Review Is there a series on Netflix which makes you want to kill the main character yourself and still to binge watch it? That is House Of Cards in a nut shell. It makes you feel uncomfortable, it makes you question if you are a good person, or if there is something wrong with you. It makes you care for a killer and a horrible person in general. Frank Underwood is the main character of this cast of horrible people. I really doubt that there is a decent person with dialogue in this hole T.V. series. But is it good or bad? It is one of the best things I've seen on the small screen in a while. It's not easy to follow, it's challenging at time but also rewarding, if you have any inclination towards politics or high quality entertainment in general I strongly recommend it. It keeps you gripped for a long time. It raises moral questions, and it's not afraid to be morally grey at times. It tells a story in the way it wants to tell it. 11 March 2016
Best Show Not Actually on TV...A Modern Masterpiece House of Cards is easily the best show not on TV and steps above every show on TV. It is only rivaled by Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad. Still the writing on the show puts it above those shows. Dialogue is sharp and amazing to listen too. Kevin Spacey's monologues definitely stand out. Periodically Spacey's Underwood will brake the 4th wall and delivers some of the greatest monologues I have ever heard. These work so well in show sometimes I would goosebumps. Kevin Spacey portrays Frank Underwood who over the course of the show becomes one of the greatest Antiheroes in TV and even movie history. This show is reason enough to pay for a Netflix account. No question it's 10/10 31 July 2014
A Must see Political drama are very few now a days. Only movies are there o entice us. In this cheesy time where the TV is filled with mind numbing teen love stories, House of Card promises of fresh air, averted of the pollutants. I never imagined Netflix to come up with a good series and no less than a great one. The story revolves around Frank Underwood, the Major political whip in the US Govt and his political career aspiration and ascension. Kevin Spacey is the narrator himself in the self mode in his character and a brilliant one too. You'll love him for every bit of his plans, ideas, talks and evil-deeds. You'll be glued to your seat to see where he's headed next. He's good, he's bad. This is a masterpiece, a rare jewel by Netflix. Despite being a small broadcaster they have set a rage with this. Kevin Spacey at his epitome. A MUST SEE. 6 May 2014
Unbelievably Fantastic... the kind of in depth show you pray for This is probably the best TV series I've ever seen in recent years. So incredible. I'm addicted and I wish they could get more of them out sooner. The first season to the second season was a painful wait. Then you watch them all and they're over way, way too fast. If you haven't seen this unbelievable show, you must watch it immediately. The complexity of dialogue and government situations is phenomenal. So much research must have went into this. But if you are really addicted like myself, you can also watch the BBC version, which is where this entire season originated. I like the American version more because of Spacey and Wright, but the English version is really amazing as well. Don't miss this. Seriously. 10 March 2014
Television of the Future: Brilliant Political Drama When Netflix announced they were starting to create their own original shows, I was skeptical. How would a company be able to create high quality TV without the support of networks or advertisers? My questions were answered positively with the creation of House of Cards. This show is a glimpse of the future of television, and for that should have a place in history.Based off of the 1990s British miniseries of the same name and, to a lesser extent, Shakespeare's Richard II, the show transports the setting from London to Washington, DC. The main character is Frank Underwood, a congressman from South Carolina. This is the role Spacey was born to play, and in fact has played in movies before. The clever, charming, intelligent, scheming, two-faced Underwood is a man with no soul, a man who doesn't understand emotions. He's an addict, an addict to power, and will stop at nothing to get what he wants. He teams up with his wife, the beautiful, strong and equally scheming Claire Underwood (Robin Wright). We've never seen a power couple quite like the Underwoods and the combo together is red hot chemistry. In many ways, they remind me of likely what the marriage between the Clintons is: one of convenience, one of two people, who have the same desires, and are working together to help each other out. Zoe Barnes (Kata Mara) is the hot shot rookie reporter who Underwood befriends. Barnes is equal parts confident and naive, learning both about the dirty world of politics and the dark reality of life post-college. There are a host of other characters who really are nothing more than game pieces to the Underwood duo and are used as such. The "binge-watching" concept is perfect with this show. Writing is used to emphasize characters, conflict and plot. It really revolutionizes the way TV can be watched. Also, with the creative freedom given to the writers, director David Fincher, and the actors, you have some absolutely powerful scenes crafted. Sure, the show is not perfect. The fourth wall breaking is jarring and out of place at times, and so far, there really doesn't seem to be an equal foil to the Underwood pair, but the show keeps you watching on and on. House of Cards might not be the best show ever created, but it's historical. It's proof that the current TV model is a dinosaur. As more high quality programming is released through this and cable TV, more pressure is on the networks to change or be left behind. That might not be such a bad thing. 10 March 2014
Hackneyed, clichéd, trite, a Soap Opera in Suits Compared to the British version, this is a bad joke. The British are far and away better writers and actors. I supposed it was 'dumbed down' for American audiences, which in itself says volumes about what corporations have done to despoil any chance of quality programming. If it were not for PBS, American TV would simply be a vapid wasteland. Is it no wonder that our children are lagging behind the rest of the world intellectually? Kevin Spacey is a fine actor, but even he cannot carry this dog.Ian Richardson, the brilliant actor who plays Spacey's British counterpart, evokes suspense and the evolution of evil from what is a likable fellow in the early days. And Diane Fletcher, playing Richardson's English wife, is superb as a 'Lady MacBeth' as she evolves from the soft-spoken, subservient wife into a ruthless accomplice in the lust for ambition, ruthlessness, and the single-minded pursuit of power. It is an amazing piece of acting. Poor Robin Wright, after several fits and starts of character development possibilities, is eventually reduced to what amounts to a second-class role in this weird 'marriage'. She changes her hair color more frequently than her expression.Dragging in the demeaning of Alcoholics Anonymous, the most effective worldwide deterrent to alcoholism, is a tawdry attempt at character building for poor Michael Kelly who plays Doug Stamper, chief of staff to Spacey's character, Francis Underwood. Kelly is one of the acting highlights in this vacuous soap opera of a TV series. 25 August 2015
Fantastic show - ignore the hysteria! There are some bizarre reviews in here. "One-dimensional characters", "lacking in originality", "disgusting", etc. It strikes me that these comments are coming from people too precious and blinded by patriotism to assess the show appropriately, and those unable to take in and understand the show in its entirety. It's because of the latter bunch that Arrested Development was originally cancelled - ignore them.Anyway, this show is packed full of excellent acting performances - the best of whom, in my opinion, is Robin Wright's character. It's laughable that anyone would make the criticism of one-dimensional characters with her on the cast - how much depth and uniqueness do people need in a character? She is loving, ruthless, loyal, manipulative, deceptive and caring all at once. Her performance is up there with Edie Falco's as Carmela Soprano, and is in general one of the best female TV acting performances there has been to date. Spacey also is obviously excellent, and a great introduction to the cast as the plot developed was Gerald McRaney, who somehow manages to heighten the shows general level of filthiness as soon as he is introduced. As for the plot, the show is wonderfully paced (with the exception of one misstep midway through the first season). There are no explosions or bloodbaths, but it is utterly compelling watching Underwood slither through government, poisoning every corner of it with his influence, gradually moving everything into place for him and his wife. On top of that, as with any great show, the show casts off key characters in shocking circumstances and does not suffer a drop in quality. I was left open mouthed at one point for example in a way I haven't been since watching The Wire, and I would recommend the show for that moment alone. So yeah, ignore the hysteria and exaggerated criticism. I'm not trying to come off as some sort of arrogant, superior 'TV-watcher', but these views are coming from people who either have no idea what they're on about, or are not watching the show with a clear perspective. This is a show about ambitious politicians in the US government fighting for power - what do people expect? Do people really think politicians are like how they are in The West Wing? Spacey's character in this is unprecedented in terms of corruption and deceit, but I'd be concerned if people thought the rest of the cast were far off being representative of the real thing. Politicians can be ruthless, fake and disingenuous, and House of Cards does a fine job of illustrating that. 16 February 2014
Political Drama for Mouthbreathers First, I admit that my score of 1 is a protest. There are moments of stellar drama, pretty good acting, and consistently excellent cinematography. I think a fair score would be 6 or 7. The show's fatal flaw is that the plot grows weaker as it progresses, and season 4 continues the trend. The show exists in an alternate reality that puts nearly no effort into building context to make its own setting plausible or the stakes of various conflicts meaningful. For instance, America experiences a gas crisis with invisible origins by sending a Russian asylum seeker to China. Apparently, Russia doesn't trust China, a fact revealed by brief expository dialogue, and Russian president Petrov-- a ridiculous caricature of Vladimir Putin-- is forced to negotiate an $800 billion dollar bailout of the Russian economy. The wrecked state of the Russian economy is also revealed via brief expository dialogue. A condition of the bailout is that Russia grants the US and China oil drilling rights, instantly solving the American gas crisis faster than it emerged.Don't forget that, in the middle of this, President Underwood is shot by a depressed ex-reporter who is on parole and in the witness protection system. Without explanation, the ex-reporter obtains a firearm and travels to a campaign rally, walks up, and pops the guy.Back to the main plot . . . Now that Russia is subdued, it's time to face ICO, which is House of Cards' ISIS. Ripped from the headlines or too lazy to write an original story? You decide! Meanwhile, the DNC throws an open convention and the entire party decides it's a great idea to nominate Claire Underwood for vice president, but Frank and Claire are pulling all the strings in the background. I can't go on.House of Cards is really great, unless you close your mouth, breathe through your nose, and think about what these writers are trying to feed you. 8 March 2016
Almost there This show is good for the first many episodes, where we slowly get into the twisted mind of Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey). Basically Frank is obsessed with power and will stop at nothing to get it. This means lots of backstabbing, manipulation, lies etc. I can accept that and even find it plausible, but later on in the show where Frank is the favorite to win Vice Presedency he goes and commit a murder(!)I do not know whether to laugh or cry, it is so insanely stupid that words cannot begin to describe it. Have the creators no sense of political thinking? A coming Vice President would never commit a murder no matter how pressed he was, that is just not the political or just sensible way. He would know how to plant stories fabricate lies, buy people off, basically anything but murder. We are talking the US here not some underdeveloped country where you might actually get a way with such a thing. This show had a lot of potential but in the end they blew it for a cheap dramatic effect, one that is utterly unbelievable.7/10 for good entertainment in most episodes, alas the terrible turn of events that a murder is, is a deal-breaker for me. Therefore I am not gonna watch the second season, what a shame really. 18 March 2013
In today's TV Landscape... H.O.C.'s is a very welcome GAME CHANGER! House of Cards was so good, that it has encouraged me to write me first ever IMDb Review/Summary.I started this program because of the repeated word of mouth it is generating. All I can say, is that there are few shows in my lifetime that have me salivating for more after I mainlined 13 Episodes in four nights! The story line makes my previous favorite political drama, West Wing, seem like... Disneyland. House Of Cards is a top quality production, with characters you will get to know and love and/or hate intimately. The actors are outright, spot-on stellar. Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright OWN their characters! The supporting cast is as strong as you will see. What I really loved about this program, is that besides one incident, you don't see guns firing. It is smart. It is intense. It is gripping. However, it does not expose you to flagrant violence that you see on 98% of the programs out there. The more I watched this program, the more I realized that netflix has changed the landscape of television viewing. Initially I doubted they could pull off such a fine program. The production, talent and story line meets, if not exceeds anything you have seen on HBO. AND... You can watch it at your pace, which I will forewarn you, will increase after the first episode.I put this program in my Top 3... It belongs with The Sopranos and The Wire. I might even put it in the top position. It is THAT GOOD! 11 February 2013
Excellent and then disappointing For the first ten episodes, this series is tops. Kudos to the producer for not taking the popular Hollywood POV by making the bad people Republicans. If I had rated this show after ep.10, I'd have given it 10. The story is totally believable until ep. 11. I think I can understand the idea that Frank is so full of himself that he will behave unethically over and over. However, Frank committing murder changes the show's genre from political intrigue to a new "Columbo" murder mystery. I can picture Peter Falk in Frank's office with his endless detail questions. "Excuse me, Congressman. We did not find your fingerprints on the steering wheel or door handle, but the funny thing is, we found no fingerprints at all. Why would a man about to kill himself stop to wipe off the steering wheel and door handle? And we have the car on several traffic cameras with two people inside. The driver in one of them looks a lot like you. Have you ever heard of DNA? Our lab found some on the top of the whiskey bottle that we can't identify."Season two has to be the end, because Frank cannot get away with murder, and when he's gone, the series is over. 15 April 2013
Season Three was Garbage House of Cards went from political drama to 2-bit soap opera.Firstly, the writers could not stop themselves from injecting their own political beliefs into the show. The most obvious example is how gay rights are handled. Now, one of the reasons I watch movies and TV shows is for insight into the way groups of people different from myself think or live. A mark of a quality production is its ability to make you sympathize, or at least understand, ideas or values different from your own. You'll get none of that here. Instead you get Pussy Riot cameos, and the Russian President himself, leader of a country where 85% of people oppose gay marriage, saying he's OK with gay, but opposes it to win over the primitive, cave-dwelling Russians who oppose it. Thanks for that Netflix, that was far more interesting than a portrayal of the actual Russian perspective. There's some attempt at tackling politics in the Middle East, but this is just a chance for Clair to demonstrate her ability to solve political crises by approaching diplomats at dinner parties and sternly demanding they do what she says. It's also used as a set up for a ridiculous "show-down" where the Russian President tries to scare Frank by showing some scars and boasting about decapitating mujaheddin during the Soviet-Afghanistan War. Neat. I guess this is how negotiations happen. If you want politics, forget it. You'll get some in the first half when Frank is trying to pass a jobs bill (who cares), but by the second half, when Frank is running for re-election, his role as President consists of some intrigue with a book author (who cares) and running in a campaign where there are literally three people seeking the Democrat nomination. The White House is reduced to a status-symbol setting for Clair and Frank to lounge around in. There is no politics in the last five or six episodes, save for the joke of a re-election.If you want to see Clair be the center of attention, watch season three. You will get shovels full of it every episode. State dinner at the White House? Expect people coming up to Clair to say how pretty she is, expect multiple toasts devoted to her, expect the Russian President to hit on her to make Frank jealous. Throughout the season you can expect Frank to praise her in every speech and expect crowds to go crazy at the sight of her. What has she does she do to deserve this praise? Cure malaria? Cure cancer? No, none of that, I don't know what it is, I guess she's just too darn pretty and sophisticated. And Clair's actions are selfish to the point of narcissism. She impulsively gives a speech that ruins weeks of work by Frank, and does she apologize? No, she just rationalizes what she did. No concern for Frank's feelings, just me me me. There's a point near the end of the series where she launches a tirade about how she hates being dependent on Frank in any way for her success. This is the mark of a total narcissist, unable to admit they are lacking anything and unable to show that they are imperfect or in need of someone else for support. She was a deep character in season 2, where we learn how she uses a past trauma as a source of strength and forward momentum, and where we see her grapple with the emptiness of living without internal constraints in a world of Machiavellian two-facedness. And then all that depth is flushed down the toilet.Frank is now toothless. He makes a few silly death threats during the season but besides that, he does no real scheming. He just whines about how much he loves his wife and laments when things don't go his way. In seasons 1 and 2 he was a psychopath who looked at all social interactions as a chance to lie and manipulate, yet was captivating because he was honest with the audience via his fourth wall violations. He kills more than once for his political career. And now? He's soft and reactive. He is no longer compelling. If the writers are setting him up for a fall, they're doing it with the subtlety of a mudslide. The only reason I finished watching was because of the subplot involving Doug and the computer hacker tracking down Rachel. That plot was good, and was proof the writers can still writing compelling drama when they need to. Doug is the man.Season 3 sucked. 15 June 2016
An excellent political drama that shouldn't be missed. I don't usually write Reviews for programmes even though I watch quite a lot of television, but I felt like I had to write a review for House of Cards simply because I didn't want people making the error I made. Being from the United Kingdom, I was cautious about watching House of Cards for some months thinking that due to the differences in our Political systems I wouldn't understand an awful lot of what was going on, How very wrong I was.Yes, House of cards is a Political Drama but it is so much more than that, it is about Power, Manipulation, Control. Kevin Spacey gives a performance that is second to none, Truly He should be Lining up awards for his Portrayal of Francis Underwood. I am only coming to the end of Season 1 myself but I am already hooked and very impressed by what I have seen so far.Basically to summarise, where ever you are from... You need to watch House of cards. 7 May 2016
Why watch A House of Cards (Hint: You already know it) When I first heard of "House of Cards" from a friend, I didn't really care. It sounded aloof. Why watch it? But what I found in just the first 5 minutes had me bury my eyes in ice.Because I couldn't stop watching! Personal Rule whenever someone tells me to watch something really really weird that I immediately say to myself "Ehh nope."? I make it a point to watch at least the first episode Season 1. Or the first 15 minutes. You never know what's coming for you Did I say 15? I got hooked in 5! The first episode is a BOMB. 5 minutes in and you're hooked.Art of TV, Political Drama, The Soundtracks, and The way Kevin Spacey just removes the fourth wall and speaks directly to you are what keep us binge watching this show. The show has so many great ideas that it adds a whole new dimension to your life. I love this show, and wish more and more people saw it!Rewatchability score : 10/10For more in detail on those points (and best quotes from the show) click to continue : http://oddlypoetic.com/movies-TV/house-of-cards/ 7 March 2016
Best political drama i've ever seen in my life I have never been a very good fan of political drama. But this series changes everything about that. The performance of Kevin Spacey is absolutely jaw dropping. Not just him but every character in this series has performed flawlessly. This is awesome and i can watch it over and over again without getting tired. To me, the biggest advantage that this idea contributes to House of Cards is that it frees up significant time during episodes because it makes things like flashbacks or repeats of events almost completely redundant. There's simply no need for them because everything is so fresh in your mind, which leaves all that extra time for more story, more action, more conspiracy, more drama, more of the stuff that viewers really want to see. However it must be said that it does take a few episodes to get used to this, and you have to be really switched on and completely focused to ensure you don't miss a beat, because you really will pay a price if you do because what's said is never repeated, only referenced further down the track. 9 January 2015

on 14 March 2017 chiku is it worth buying? at this date iphone 7 32gb is available for 50k. i believe that this could be the best price to buy this phone; but is it worth spending 50k? within a month from now samsung s8 is going to be in market, according to the promotion videos and leaks s8 is going to be the best and most beautiful phone ever. surely s8 will be the best looking phone with a lot of features nd other cool stuffs which other brands don't offer. but then people will judge me based on an os platform, its ios or its apple nd all. i would like you to be aware that apple is also going to make huge changes this year as their 10th anniversary and according to leaks and rumors all over the Internet it will somewhat look like Samsung s8 with edge display. you can check on youtube for visual ideas. my recommendation is that keep your hard earned money 50k for upcoming releases, if u are apple fan then u can go for iphone edition or if u wouldn't mind going to android then s8 is going to be the best phone this year. for me 50k is a huge amount of money, if 50k is just your pocket money and u think you can save another 50k till sept. then only u can think of buying iphone7. Because after the release of new iphone edition (or iphone 8 whatever apple is going to name it) iphone 7 is going to loose its value to very much extent. if u will go to sell 7 32gb then the chances arw u wont get more than 30k, and next iphone is surely be going to start at a price of 70-80k. so think wisely and analyse your needs and spend your money. 50k is not earned with a blink of eye. 1

on 13 March 2017 Amazon Customer Great piece of technology. Awesome phone. Fast and responsive. This is my first iPhone and third apple product( after iPod touch 4 and iPad 3) Initially I am doubtful about this purchase. Using Samsung galaxy note 4 for almost 18 months. I had battery issues and slow multiple hangs in note 4 then I decided to switch to iPhone. Using for last 3 days and enjoying it. Slick and compact design.Pros:1)slick and superb design. Handy.2)Fast and responsive. Very intuitive.3)Love the stereo speaker. (Last time I had it on nokia5800) missed stereo speakers in Samsung4) Home button and Touch ID. I love it. Loved the concept of home button5) Battery life. Screen on time does not much differ. But off screen and stand by time is awesome. If i keep the iPhone and note 4 at 100% before night and keep them unused overnight. In the morning iPhone battery level will be 99% and note 4 will be around 90-91%. I love this part. Background power management is best in iOS compared to android.6) camera. Not very much impressive but nice. Video quality I like much in my note 4Cons:1) Screen: first and most Important thing if u migrate from galaxy series. I miss AMOLED screen. Screen resolution is also on lower side. You will notice pixelated screen compared to galaxy note 4 and other galaxy series. If u have upgraded from previous iPhone then it will not bother u much. U can not use virtual reality on this screen.2)iOS: it is closed system. U cannot use hardware capability to max unless u jailbreak iPhone. But I would not advised to do it. 5

on 10 March 2017 Navneet Nishant Finesse, Performance, Dual cameras; but it’s still a tough call Build and Design: 8/10The iPhone 7 Plus does not come with a drastically new design. You can look at it more of adding finesse to the iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6s Plus designs. The similar design is now in its third generation. Is Apple holding out till next year, to release a brand new design language? Not that it is bad in the current state, but it dosen’t make it stand out from its predecessors. Not to mention, the designs from its Android arch-rivals has certainly seen changes over the years. The first thing that you will notice when you handle the phone, is that the visible antenna lines have been nicely camouflaged. While it is still visible to an extent on the Rose Gold, Silver and Gold variants of the phone; on the Matte Black and Jet Black versions, you have to really look for it.The rounded edges, power / standby, volume rocker buttons and the ringer notch are all in the same spot as the iPhone 6s Plus. So is the home button. But there’s a catch. The circular button isn’t a push button anymore but is supported by the Taptic Engine’s feedback mechanism. The Taptic Engine which supports the 3D touch mechanism for the display, also controls the touch response on the button. You can set the levels of feedback for the button, and honestly after a while you forget that the button isn’t there. It is one cool implementation. And it is such fine design details that make Apple products what they are.The edges are 7.3mm thick and it weighs around 188 grams. While the thickness is the same as its predecessor, it is around 4 grams lighter. In terms of overall feel of the phone and sturdiness, there isn’t much different from the iPhone 6s Plus. And the complaint we had with the 6s Plus remains. The iPhone 7 Plus offers a terrible body to screen ratio as compared to some of its Android flagships such as the Galaxy S7 edge or the newly launched Google Pixel XL, which offers 5.5-inch display in a more compact body. The rear side has a bump in the top left hand corner which houses two 12MP camera sensors. Snapping on cover on the iPhone brings the camera bump with the plane of the iPhone back. There is one important addition though. It is IP67 certified which makes it water and dust resistant.Metal back is still as slippery as its predecessors. Apple has some really cool leather covers with metallic button areas if you have buttery hands. They sell separately, of course. Snapping them on further reduces ease of one-handed use. And no, you cannot use the last generation covers on this phone for obvious reasons. I got the matte black variant to review, and it looks quite wonderful, as compared to the other three colours. The Jet Black variant is still the more premium variant, and I would not be surprised if we see more Jet black or piano black phone colours over the coming months.Features: 8.5/10Thanks to a limited product portfolio in its smartphone segment, Apple really ensures that the internals get a good amount of upgrade in the coming generations. To that extent, the iPhone 7 Plus comes with the Apple A10 Fusion chipset which has a quad-core processor clocked at 2.23GHz. This is paired with 3GB RAM. It comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD resolution display. There are three storage variants – 32GB, 128GB and 256GB of which we have the 256GB variant for review. There is no expandable storage. It runs on iOS 10. A single nano SIM card slot is present on the right hand side, just below the power/standby button. It supports dual band Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, Wi-fi hotspot, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS with A-GPS and GLONASS, NFC only for Apply Pay which is not available in India. And also, no FM radio. The big changes on the features front is the dropping of the 3.5mm audio jack. You will need a lightning port connector on your earphones. Apple bundles a pair. Other option is using a Bluetooth headset to enjoy your music. Apple has also bundled in a lightning port to 3.5 mm audio jack adapter for those who still want to rely on their personal audio gear. This is one move that drew a lot of flak as a lot of us still prefer using personal earphones / headphones which still have a 3.5mm jack. But give it some time and you will see a lot more lightning port earphone accessories, going by Apple’s history of spawning off accessories market segments. The iPhone 7 Plus comes with stereo speakers finally, with one being at the base and the other on the earpiece speaker. On the camera front, you get two 12MP sensors on the back and there is a 7MP front-facing FaceTime HD camera. Apple has implemented the dual rear cameras in a way that you get to use true 2x optical zoom.Display: 8/10The iPhone 7 Plus sports a 5.5inch FullHD display which gives a pixel density of 401PPI. The panel is an LED backlit IPS LCD panel. However with the iPhone 7 Plus, Apple claims to be using a wide gamut display (cinema standard). When placed side by side with the iPhone 6s/6s Plus, I noticed that the iPhone 7 Plus had a slight warm tinge to it. The iPhone 7 Plus is definitely a notch brighter than the 6s Plus. The Night Shift mode lets you select the time when you want to display to control the blue light, and it also lets you select the shade of yellow that you are comfortable with. This added granularity is a nice touch.Colour reproduction is spot on and it is still a class-leading display among smartphones. Colours aren’t unnecessarily vivid. Legibility in sunlight is not an issue, as its auto-brightness mode works quite well. The display, as has been the case with previous generations, is quite glossy. It was while shooting in bright sunlight where at times all I could see on the display was my reflection, specially when shooting from chest height. Not so much at the eye level. The black levels on the display are quite good and watching movies or playing games is a lot of fun. Games such as Vain Glory, Real Racing 3, Nova 3 look gorgeous on this calibrated display.Software: 8/10Apple iPhone 7 Plus comes with the latest iOS 10 operating system. The one running on the review unit was 10.0.3 on which majority of the testing was done, before switching to the 10.1 beta to access the Portrait mode in the Camera app. The iOS 10 is refined and operationally quite smooth on most occasions. There were a few instances of apps not registering action on first tap.iOS 10 dosen’t look very different from its predecessor, but packs in a lot of new features. For starters, you can now uninstall the native Apple apps if you don’t need them. I figured I would do without Stocks, Home and a couple of other apps which I deleted. Technically it just hides the icon and deletes all the app data from your phone. You can reinstall the app by searching for it in the App store. The 3D touch still offers the Peek and Pop features, with support added to a lot more apps than we had seen when the 6s Plus launched.Messages has got a complete revamp with the app letting you add in GIF animations; finger gestures – creating animations such as heart break, beating heart and more; send photos from the camera while in the app; share music and so on. While these additions are playing catch up to the likes of apps such as Telegram, it makes little sense to use Messages if your family or friend circle isn’t on Apple devices.Control Centre has been modified, with the music control shifted to a new tab. Also the four icons at the base – torch, timer, calculator and camera support 3D gestures, letting you access more functions without leaving the Control Centre screen. iOS 10 also lets you do a lot from the lock screen itself. You can swipe left to open the camera or swipe right to access widgets or swipe from the top to bottom to see notifications. There’s also the ‘Raise to Wake up’ feature which wakes up the display when you just lift your iPhone to your face if its lying in the sleep mode on your desk.Music app has got some design changes. Instead of My Music, you now get a Library tab which lets you enlist a variety of options from Playlists, Artists, Album, Songs and so on. You can download songs if you are a subscriber, optimise storage by setting a limit on auto downloads, auto-generated playlists in the ‘For You’ section and more. The Photos app has got some additions in the form of Memories, where in iOS makes albums based on your photos shot at a particular location. In short, this is Apple Photos playing catch up to Google Photos, which has much more interesting features.Siri was the star feature of the iPhones when it was first announced back in 2011. Since then Google has been getting better with its AI-backed virtual assistant game – first Google Now and this year the Google Assistant. Between the two, we noticed that the Assistant was able to understand accents better and let you have contextual conversations, whereas with Siri you still have to pay attention to your diction.Even asking Siri simple questions such as “what was the iPhone 7 Plus pricing for India” or “when was Siri released?” the responses weren’t very forth coming. Also between the two I also realised that most of the times you have to ask Siri questions in a particular way, and you cannot ask follow up questions and get satisfactory responses as you do with Assistant. Apple says Siri is a self-learning system, so maybe it needs more usage. But after using it for a week, it isn’t significantly better than Google Assistant. One thing I would grant Siri is the way it presents card information – is much more richer and informative than Google.Performance: 9/10Call quality is top notch with audible earpiece speaker even in high traffic situations. The iPhone 7 Plus supports Cat 9 LTE, voice over LTE, Wi-fi calling. I did not find any connectivity issues with a Jio SIM card on it, and was able to make successful VoLTE calls. With the latest Apple A10 Fusion chipset paired with 3GB of RAM (the highest seen on an Apple iPhone) you get a wicked fast device. The A10 Fusion chipset houses a quad-core processor, with two high power cores clocked at 2.23GHz and two low power saving ones. There’s a six-core GPU as well. The single core performance score of 3445 observed on GeekBench 4 was the highest we have seen on any smartphone we have tested so far. Even the multi-core score is only second to Huawei P9. The AnTuTu benchmark gives 186093 – again the highest score. In terms of raw numbers, the iPhone 7 Plus comes out tops. In real life usage though, the phone runs lag free and things such as app switching, finger print scanning work fast. The phone does get warm when you are on a particularly photography heavy day, but never crossing 36-38 degree mark on the Fluke IR thermometer.Gaming on the phone is smooth. No frame drops were observed on high end games such Vain Glory, Nova 3, Real Racing 3 and so on. Watching movies with the stereo speakers is quite a fine experience. The speakers are quite loud, but in certain applications such as YouTube, we observed that using the headphones was a battery option.Camera: 8.5/10One of the highlight feature of the iPhone 7 Plus is the presence of the dual rear camera setup. Sure, this isn’t the first time we are seeing a dual camera on a smartphone. Huawei and LG have done this before. But just like all things Apple, the implementation is different. There are two 12MP sensors, one is standard camera which has an equivalent focal length of 28mm (with an f/1.8 aperture) and the other sensor has a telephoto lens having a 56mm focal length (with an f/2.8 aperture). The standard 28mm lens comes with OIS, whereas the telephoto lens does not. This implementation lets the iPhone 7 Plus offer true 2x optical zoom. The Camera app lets you easily switch regular wide angle shot and the 2x optical zoom shot. This ensures that there is no loss in detail when taking 2x zoom photos. While it may seem like they are two different cameras, they do tend to work together everytime you fire off the shutter. You can use these two lenses when shooting videos as well, but switching to the 2x zoom, will remove the OIS feature. The two lenses work quite well in the Portrait mode which is currently available on the iOS 10.1 beta. Also another thing to note is that the telephoto lens can only be used in well lit situations, and if the light isn’t enough, the iPhone 7 Plus will use the regular lens with 2x digital zoom. Apple’s image processor takes this decision on the fly.The iPhone 7 Plus has a 7MP front facing FaceTime HD camera and quad LED flash unit on the rear side. Features carried forward from the iPhone 6s Plus include the live photos, phase detect autofocus. The Camera app is also similar to the one seen in the last generation.Coming to the image quality, the iPhone 7 Plus just like its predecessors, delivers. Colours come out natural and at times it may look a bit too dull when compared with images coming out of say a Samsung Galaxy S7 edge or even the latest Google Pixel XL. Apple iPhone 7 Plus gives a neutral output, with good amount of detail, great dynamic range. Optical zoom works quite well in bright outdoors. You also get the option of using 10x digital zoom for still images and 6x digital zoom for video. Use this only in emergency situations as there is a lot of artifacts you will get in the final images. When forcing the HDR mode, we also noticed some artifacts around the edges if the subject moved too much, as is seen in the fur of the labrador in the image below, around the right paw.Panoramas come out really good, and there is good exposure control. You can also get HDR Panorama shots with the new camera app. There were instances when shooting panoramas in bright sunlight, where I noticed mild change in the sky exposure. But the image stitching is relatively better than that seen on Android phones. The 2x optical zoom also offers Panorama mode.Focussing is relatively quick. But time to first shot is still slow as compared to the quicker ways in which you can turn on cameras in some Android phones. Double tapping the home button to launch the camera is really a no brainer which Apple should implement.Low light image quality is good, but in a side by side comparison with the Google Pixel XL, I noticed that the Pixel XL clearly took the lead there. I’m not saying iPhone 7 Plus is a bad camera in low light – far from it. But the noise control, detail retention, dynamic range seen on the Galaxy S7 and Pixel XL is notches above the iPhone 7 Plus. The Portrait mode was one area which Apple spoke about a lot during the launch. During the time of testing it was only available on the beta, though it is now available to everyone. Once you turn on the Portrait mode, you will get instructions below the rounded square frame, whether you need to move closer or farther. Once you get the lock, the focussing frame becomes yellow and you fire the shutter. Images clicked in the portrait mode turned out good, it works specially well when you are in a well lit area and there is respectable distance between the subject and the background. The blurring of the background is nicely done and isn’t as aggressive as what we have seen with other dual camera phones. The good thing is that you can see the shallow depth of field while you are composing the shot. But the problem is that it will take some practise to get the shot faster. Your subject will have to really be patient till you get everything right. This may be cool when shooting friends and family, but if you are on the street and want to get that quick portrait with a defocussed background, then that can prove difficult. On the video front, the iPhone 7 Plus can shoot up to 4K resolution videos. The OIS on the phone ensures that there is minimal camera shake, although you do see a slight jello effect when walking and shooting. The camera region does get warm when shooting videos. But not enough to cause it to shut down, as I have observed with Sony flagship smartphones.Battery Life: 8/10Coming with a 2900mAh non-removable battery, the iPhone 7 Plus has seen a bump in this department as compared to the previous generation. In a word, the battery life is excellent. There wasn’t a day in the two weeks that I was using the phone, when I found the battery to be draining out before my work day. In fact, with a 100 percent charge at 8AM, and after a day of regular usage, I would still have around 20 percent charge remaining till around 10PM. Heavy usage including playing games, streaming video, calling, messaging via multiple apps, using the camera extensively did drain out the battery by around 9PM. The battery usage numbers show some really good numbers with a 16 hour plus usage time and standby time of over 40 hours. It also offers the Low Power mode, which further extends the battery.Charging seems to take forever though. It easily takes over 3 hours to go from sub-10 percent to 100 percent charge. In an age of rapid charging technologies available on all Android flagships, where you can go from 0 to 100 in just over an hour’s time, Apple’s charging technology seems dated. The good thing is that the iPhone 7 Plus can hold the charge for that much longer vis-a-vis an Android phone. But it’s about time Apple get some sort of quick charging onboard. Is it holding that out for the 10th anniversary edition?Verdict and Price in IndiaAll things considered, the Apple iPhone 7 Plus is a great device. It excels in departments such as battery life, performance, display among other things. The iOS 10 also brings a lot of new features to the table. The implementation of the dual rear camera is quite intelligent. Also portrait mode will be quite loved by those who love that kind of photography – it will just require patience though. While the camera image quality is good, the Apple iPhone 7 Plus still leaves scope for improvement in the low light photography department as we observed in out Pixel XL vs iPhone 7 Plus shootout. If you are on the iPhone 6/6 Plus and are looking for an upgrade, the iPhone 7/7 Plus could be considered. For the 6s / 6s Plus users, there is little to no reason for upgrade. You would rather wait out this iteration for the 10th year iPhone edition. While the iPhone 7 Plus is good, it looks like Apple is leaving the better things for its 10th year edition. Things such as similar design, no quick charging support, similar camera app (which still makes you dig into the General settings to make tweaks in resolution and the like) among other areas have been carried forward from previous two generations. There’s a high possibility that some of these issues would hopefully be addressed in the next gen iPhone.Prices start from Rs 72,000 for 32GB, Rs 82,000 for 128GB and Rs 92,000 for the 256GB variant of the iPhone 7 Plus. The prices are high, and yes you can get a lot more in that amount. But if you want to invest in an iPhone, this is what you have to pay. A lot of telcos are offering the iPhone 7/7 Plus with various data packs as compared to Android competition. Thankfully, the pricing is in line with what it was last year. If 5.5-inch is too large a size for you, then opt for the iPhone 7 which still retains most of the internal features seen on the iPhone 7 Plus.If you are still not convinced about the iPhone 7 Plus, or are short on budget, the Android flagships that you can consider include the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge which is still a powerful device. I have been testing the Google Pixel XL for some days now, and it has already shown its capability in the low light department as compared to the iPhone 7 Plus. So that could also be a possible contender. 5

on 8 March 2017 nitish dhawan Nice Phone GOOD:+ water resistant - this is a huge improvement for me!+increased speed is noticeable w Siri.+the capacity is amazing! I can keep movies, videos, books, photos, music etc without having to store on iCloud or the like (which usually involves a monthly fee).+ decent size (same as iPhone 6S) while remaining portable and although not as big as the 7 Plus, it can still fit in pocket.+Widget feature (swiping to right at home screen) has been improved and now allows editing. You can add or delete features which can be key for privacy and being able to customize is always a good thing.+has lots of added fun features in iMessage (not sure if its the updated software or strictly iPhone 7) like memes, automatic replies and being able to write w your fingertip.+camera takes much better pics (increased the megapixels and the difference is noticeable) and it has 5X zoom capability.+has the fingerprint option for quicker access after you enter your 6 digit pass code to begin.+even slimmer than the iPhone 6 but still able to stand up against something for convenient viewing.+speaker upgrade as it now provides stereo (not up to audiophile standards but still).BAD:- no headphone jack!! but box includes dongle (see photo) which inserts into charging port and provides headphone jack - I have a bet with myself on how long it will take to lose. I know wireless headphones are the future but happy with my old faithful headphones.-the home button is not as well defined. Its gonna take longer than 24 hrs to get used to as it takes me a few tries to activate the home button. It requires the right amount of pressure and despite offering three different options, not easy. The guys at the Apple Store need to stop showing off - on the bright side, I'm thinking it's a learning curve thing and continued use should take care of this issue. 4

on 6 March 2017 Amazon Customer Brilliant. Brilliant phone, although, not much of an upgrade since I was using the 6S for the past year. The water resistance is lovey. I love the stereo speakers (the speaker from the earpiece is brilliant). The 3D Touch home button is quite pointless but the haptic feed back is fun (not of any particular use). I could notice slight differences between photos clicked from my 6S and 7. 7 has a better colour capturing capability and low light images are better. Other than that, cameras are pretty similar. The black colour looks better than space grey for sure. If you notice closely, the white colour at full brightness on older iPhones, is better than that on the 7. On the 7, the screen is a little yellow instead of white. It doesn't make a big difference though. Overall, yes, better than most other phones out there and quite durable too. And loud. 5

on 3 March 2017 Amazon Customer 5D glass that helps make the phone sit in your hand much more comfortably, while also providing a nicer experience when swiping The iPhone 7 looks gorgeous, there's no doubt about that, boasting an aluminium unibody with curved edges and 2.5D glass that helps make the phone sit in your hand much more comfortably, while also providing a nicer experience when swiping from the side of the display. It isn't just standard aluminium like the material used by its competitors, either - the iPhone 7 features 7000 Series aluminium, making the iPhone more durable without adding much weight and giving the device more of a premium feel. The iPhone 7 is, physically, the same size and shape as its predecessors, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6, measuring in at 128.3mm x 67.1mm x 7.1mm, but with a few notable differences. The rear-facing camera and TrueTone flash are bigger, and the eagle-eyed among you will spot that the antenna lines are gone from the back of the iPhone. Well, not gone, but repositioned to the top and bottom of the smartphone to make them less noticeable and provide a cleaner look 5

on 23 February 2017 Ikrar A. Excellent phone for apple lovers and also excellent service Hello guys Read this review before buy I PHONE 7 256 GB BlackBuying reason -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Premium design Powerful configuration Impressive cameras Large battery backupBeware of ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Expensive Non-expandable memoryVerdict ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The Apple iPhone 7 256GB comes with stunning looks and its fair share of brilliance. The trademark of this years iPhone is the presence of the most powerful chipset so far that will let you achieve amazing results. The camera has also been upgraded with several new enhancements and the selfie camera is more powerful than before. The ability to stay submerged in water for up to 30 minutes is also a great addition. Though Apple has not made any significant changes in terms of looks, it is still a great device to own of you got those bucks.A brainy beautyDisplay and Configuration ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The Apple iPhone 7 256 comes flaunting a 4.7-inch IPS LCD (750 x 1,334 pixels) multi-touch display with 3D Touch Touchscreen that offers 326 pixels per inch. The display is capable of producing a wide range of colour gamut along with great viewing angles. The Home button on works on Taptic Engine which is customizable and responses to pressure too well. Apple has made this device splash and water resistant so you need not worry about sudden rainfall or water related accidents. Apple has re-introduced their Black colour option by making a Jet Black colour available alongside a Matte Black. Previously seen colours like the Rose Gold, Gold and Silver are also there. But the Space Grey seems to have been ousted from the list. The smartphone functions on iOS v10 which is the latest software offering from Apple. Under the hood the flagship device is powered by a quad-core processor that sits on the A10 chipset specially built for this phone. The all new A10 is a Fusion chip that has two high?performance cores and two high?efficiency cores and brilliantly adjust themselves to assist in the tasks that require either efficiency or high performance. To ensure seamless multitasking the smartphone has 2GB of RAM.Camera and Storage ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------A 12MP rear camera is proudly situated inside the Apple iPhone 7 which produces enhanced images than all the previous iPhones we have come across so far. It has optical image stabilization, an Â/1.8 aperture, and a six-element lens and has four smart LED flash that delivers 50 percent brighter photos as compared to the iPhone 6s. Another unique feature of this camera is the ability to adjust its lighting while clicking pictures as per the environment. This ensures that the snaps are well lit and sharp. The 7MP FaceTime HD camera is another upgrade and is as amazing as it can be. It uses wide color capture to take sharper and more vibrant selfies. The Retina Flash matches the ambient light for a shot to produce natural-looking skin tones.Shooting videos is also a delight with this beauty as it can capture high resolution 4K videos to keep your memories from fading. With the new aperture settings and OIS, videos shot in darker settings with iPhone 7 are also much more enhanced than those taken by its older siblings. It comes with 256GB of mammoth storage to store all your needed apps and files. Just like all other Apple devices, the memory cannot be expanded.Audio and Air-pods --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The iPhone 7 256 comes with two stereo speakers that provide increased dynamic range and two times the audio output of the Apple 6s. Apple has ditched its familiar 3.5mm headphone jack and replaced it by a Lightning port that supports the newly introduce wireless Air-pods. It is easy to set and also allows access to Siri by simply tapping it twice. This does not mean that you cannot use your normal earphones. The 3.5mm headphone jack adapter is also included.Battery and Connectivity --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The smartphone is juiced with a large 3,000mAh, li-polymer non-removable battery. Connectivity options in the phone includes - 4G, 3G, GPRS, EDGE, Wi-Fi 802.11, a/ac/b/g/n, Mobile Hotspot, Bluetooth, GPS with with A-GPS, Glonass, Computer sync, NFC, OTA sync, Tethering, TV-Out, UMA and of course the Lightning port.It also supports Voice over LTE that makes your conversations sound as crisp and clear as if you were face to face. Thanks for reading guys if you like this review then vote helpful... 5

The pressure for the feedback back can be adjusted. It has Siri built in.The phone now supports stereo speakers as well. Now let's start with the review.Pros :. The new iPhone 7 has a huge upgrade in the camera department when compared to the 6 or 6s. The output from the speakers is very good thanks to the stereo speakers. Though it supports only a 1960 mAh battery the battery life is very good and. Can give one hour more screen on time than the 6s.. It can handle any game with ease and no lag. The general performance is top notch. The processor is the best and most powerful processor.Cons :. The worst part is the absence of the 3.5 mm headphone jack. You need to carry the dongle to use headphones or use a wireless one .. The supplied charger is very slow(5V-1A).That's all . I hope you liked the review if you did please press the helpful button. ( It means a lot) and do subscribe to my channel PhoneRadius (no space between phone and radius ) on YouTube.Thank you. 4

on 5 February 2017 Jigar B. 1 month Phone Used Review Liked about Phone :Jet Black color is awesome which giving me amazing feeling.Camera quality is wonderful and it's beyond expectation. Result of it excellent for Day time photography only.3D Touch and Video recording is also a fruitful things that I have ever experienced.TouchID function is working very rapid and smoothly.Phone Battery charge fast and last still a day which is enough for me.Phone's screen display gives me rest to my eyes.Sound quality is awesome in Apple's headphone. One will feel every bit of music and song lyrics.Don't Like about Phone:Video quality of recording at night, it's not good at all as compare to day light video recording.NOTICE:One thing I did it that I have copied all my photos and videos into laptop with the help of data cable (I don't whether this feature was working earlier or not. or it happening may be using of latest IOS).I am still exploring new things in phone as I was Android user. 4

on 29 January 2017 Kevin is K-tech360 Iphone 7 review all about iphone 7 The Apple iPhone 7 reviewIt's the smartphone of the year in performanceReleased in September 2016If you are an iphone 6s user there is something thing about the iPhone 7 that will attract the iPhone 6s user these are the new two color Variants the jet black and the mate black edition of the iPhone 7.Then the new home button it feels awesome to touch and feel its because the home button is not a physical button any more its a static button which does not move but still it gives use a hectic feedback that makes use feel that we are really touching it.The home button is like a touch screen. Then the new and improved camera best quality camera ever its that good. The major changes in the iPhone 7 & 7 plus is the removal of the headphone jack. The new iphone 7 is also water resistant but the iPhone 6s is not.4k recording is possible in the iPhone 7 its also possible in the 6s too Battery life is also upgraded. The A10 fusion chip for the best performanceThe A10 motion chip for hey siri functionality. This all about iphone 7By kevin from K-tech360 5
on 28 January 2017 Aklesh Aanjaneay I am a teenager so headphone jack is really important but since it is not there I have to use the adapter and carry it which by all means is a drawback but it improved the speaker quality so I liked the phone but the could add something more like dash charging or something else , they can do anything theyyy are apple but my expectations from the product was more 4
on 28 January 2017 Nikunj JJW The phone to go buy Can't give a second thought if want a premium phone. Excuses can be enough. 5
