a) It is a cohort study because the researchers are observing a group of people and tracking their progression over a period of time.
b) The response variable is whether the person may or may not have heart disease. The explanatory variable is whether the individual is happy or not happy.
c) Confounding variables may exist in this study. The lurking variables may include genetics and exercise among other things which could affect if a person has heart disease or not.
