First, we will look at Alabama. It was an easily won red state in the 2016 Presidential Election. According to the Live Results Map on www.realclearpolitics.com Donald Trump won 62.9 percent of the vote.
These two states consistently vote blue, and as they are such small states, I grouped them together for the purpose of this project. The Live Results Map shows Clinton winning with 61.1 percent of the votes in Vermont and 47.6 percent in New Hampshire.
Finally, we come to the state of Michigan. While they did eventually vote Trump, the Live Results Map shows the vote as only a 0.3 percent difference between the two candidates. It was the closest split out of all 50 states.
Trump has a generally low polarity, including the states in which he won, but he was still elected because the electoral college voted for him. Clinton won the popular vote, but she did not gain the electoral college votes needed, therefore she was not elected president despite her more positive polarity.
