Data Description

There are about 3585 observations and 95 variables that are associated with my dataset. I am not going to talk about each and every variable as I will not use all in my final analysis. So, as the project progresses I will briefly explain and summarize the variables that I am using.

Context and Purpose of Dataset

Since 2008, guests and hosts have used Airbnb to travel in a more unique, personalized way. As part of the Airbnb Inside initiative, this dataset describes the listing activity of homestays in Boston, MA.

Content

The following Airbnb activity is included in this Boston dataset: Listings, including full descriptions and average review score.

Variables

There are 95 variables in the dataset. As stated earlier, only some of them are mentioned below: Name: Name of the place where a Guest stays Summary: Summary about the place Space: About the spaciousness of the place Transit: How to locate the place and how to reach Various Variables about Host Various Variables with link url to the place like location, pics Various Variables for Location Various Variables for amenities Various Variables for Price Various Variables for Availability and Calender Various Variables for Reviews

Data Type

Str command in Data Summary Tab gives you the type of each variable.

Missing Values

There are quite a number of missing values in this dataset which are left blank. I will encode them as strings where data type is character and as a default value like 99 where type is int.

Variable Summary

Summary command in Data Summary gives you the summary of each variable as required.

Data Cleaning

I am not yet going to clean my data as I have numerous number of missing values. I will clean it according to the requirements of my analysis and will briefly describe what steps I have taken to clean the data, as and when required. But there are few basic ideas that I have in my mind in order to proceed with cleaning:

  1. Will replace missing values (Strings in character variables and a numeric value like 99 in int variables)

  2. Delete the observation if that row has quite a few missing columns

  3. Format the data set, like using some variables as factors and some as int as required.

Planned Analysis

Following are the targets that I am hoping to achieve through this data:

  1. I want to describe the vibe of each Boston neighborhood using listing descriptions

  2. What are the busiest times of the year to visit Boston?

  3. By how much do prices spike?

  4. Is there a general upward trend of both new Airbnb listings and total Airbnb visitors to Boston?

P.S. Some analysis might change as depending upon the final results.
