Black Abalone size

Abalone plots were surveyed for individuals <30mm in size on 2016-11-14, 2016-11-15, 2016-11-16, at sites SNMP, SNCO.

A total of 401 abalone were found across all sites, with an average size of 18.18mm. Abalone ranged from 5mm to 30mm in length.

Each site had an average of 200.5 abalone, with 66.83 per plot.

Abalone Site Characteristics

For each abalone, data was collected on the distance to the nearest neighbor, location found, crustose coralline, whether or not they were submerged at low tide, and if they were found behind another animal.

Protected Abalone

Abalone were considered to be found in a protected site if they were protected by physical features of the site or were hidden behind another animal. Overall, 98.25 percent of the Abalone were found in protected sites.
